Has anyone had any luck with building a 400 ex to compare to a stock 450r? I may consider buying a 400ex and build it to be competitive to a stock 450R. I want a bike that requires less maintenance like a 400ex.

My brother in law had a stock 450r, and my 400ex had some bolt ons(pipe, air filter, revbox). Top end his would do 83. My 400 would do about 80.5 on gps. He now has a slip on hmf and an air filter. Mine is in the shop now gettin the motor built. I am hopin to keep up with him more on bottom end. Yesterday after we did the slip on and jetted it. I raced a ltz 400 w/ just a yoshi pipe. I couldn't start pullin on him until 4th gear. I'm wondering how bad the suzuki 450 is?

to keep up with a 450r you dont need much. Good pipe, cam, and jetted well. my 426 will easily beat a stock 450, witha pipe they will pull on me though.

450Rchaser-what is your gearing? no way a 400ex on stock gearing will do 80 MPH. remember a pipe will not increase top speed, just get you there faster.

maybe he ment 70

I just helped a friend do a 426 kit plus a stage 2 cam, aribox mods and a yosh pipe on his 400 and it pulls pretty hard now, hes got better tires and all i do is spin when we drag race. Depending on who gets the holeshot its a toss up. Im gonna ride it this week and may consider one, i love my xr 400 always reliable low maintenance fun.

i have an 05 400ex with the wiseco 440 big bore kit stage two hot cams jetted k&n filter 14 tooth front sprocket soon to add a rev box and remove airbox cover and rejet it...but i was racing 660 raptors and 450r's with hrc kits and i beat the 450 a couple times and a couple times he beat me but i stayed about half a 4wheeler behind the 660 but i low away suzuki 400's and 416ex's

i need tires bad i spin through first and pull up in second if i could keep it down and from spinning i would stay neck and neck with that 660 i think so anyways lol....who knows lol i have no clue what kinda power im pushing ive just got it done last week

well my Full MX 416 in no way would touch my stock 450r in any way shape or form. The 416 had High Comp 416, Hot cams stage 2, HMF, alum box no lid, jetted right. Just didnt rev as fast and high as the 450. Dragged a stock YFZ and the yfz just walked away.

not even close, mid 60's to about 70 max. your not gonna gain 10 MPH by going up to 22" tires. I think you need a new GPS cause yours is broken.

Think what you think but mty brother in laws 450r only had 1 1/2 lengths on me at top end.

I have a 400ex with 22'' tires, whitebros slip on, WB powerfilter, and jetted right and all i can get is 71-72mph.

A stock 450r will do about 73mph. Your 400ex will not do 80 unless you have it geared extremely high.

Mr.Big is right 80mph on a stock geared 400ex is rediculous.

P.S. Just because mine is yellow doesnt mean its a lemon lmao

all that stuff make no difference in speed. the tires will make it slightly faster, by only a few MPH. the ONLY thing that will make your quad faster is higher RPM's or higher gearing. a stock 400ex tops out at 65-68 because of gearing, not power. extra power will only get you to your top speed quicker. so many people think that because they have every mod know to man done to their engine with stock gearing can do 80-90mph. The only way to get that speed is to re-gear, with really tall gearing.

dirtwheels or QUAD magazine did something on this a while back ago in a test... id check that out.

if it was dirtwheels the 400ex only does 45 stock and the raptor 350 will blow it away, but thats no problem.....

and ppl saying non-worked engines(stock) with just pipes and jetted will say with stock 450's is bs... in a race meaning on a track, if the guy on the 450 sux the 400 will win... but in a drag there is no way, me and my friend both draged our friend on his 450r when it was stock and we had pipes, he still beat us pretty good, and its not the rider because he's not a good rider(the guy on the 450)

You may stay with a stock 450r but if it has a pipe and cam it will leave you in the dust easily. Your quad does not do over 80mph unless its in the back of your pickup.

nothings wrong with yellow lol my truck and quad is yellow, but as far as the 416 beating a 450r. i have a 440 with stage two cam and k&n and jetting im gettin ready to get a rev box cuz i need it bad i could use the extra rpm's and i also went up one tooth bigger on the front sprocket and its not enough i need to go smaller on the back sprocket cuz my front ones to almost to big to fit... but with all that dont to my quad im not sure what it'll do it did 65 stock and ive beat 45r with hrc kits so after tires and higher gears and a cdi i should be kickin ***** and takin names its bad i love it

I love the low maintenance on the 400 but I dont know much about upgrading to compare the 450. My bike runs great and I haven't had any problems with it in the two years I've owned it.

If you have the rev box, ie, vortex, dyna, you can hit that 80 with 22's. I consistantly run by 450rs, both on hill climbs, and on flat drags. You need motor mods to run with them on the hills, and on the flats, just gears and RPM. Pipes can make a difference depending on the power curve. I have a 440 stage 3 webcam, port/polish, sparks X6 exhaust, much more. Its for sale by the way...:D

A bunch of the guys I ride with have 450's and they're alright. Mine is techniquely faster because its yellow. JK. What do you have for exhausts for sale. I want one that has a good sound and isnt crazy loud. The 450's totally take my bike on a straight away but they aren't easy to control on trails because they have so much power. The steering can be really tough if your ripping around corner. I've seen some baaddd wipe outs on that bike. Do you have any nerf bars? I need some of those as well.
