well esr 310 kit should be here any day now i hope to have it installed this weekend. i have a fmf fatty pipe 38mm a/s carb, reeds, k&n, roost boost and janssen super coil. i have been looking through this site to get install tips so far i got this info to start with jetting start with 180 main 50 pilot run plug chops (light brown paper bag color or cream coffee) after install and motor break in gearing i'll have to check mine but about 14/38 is suggested. i also have the esr temp gauge what temp should i be running at? any other tips also i have never worked on a bike before besides upgrading the parts mentioned any tips.

i have a suggestion about gearing. i use my R for xc.before i put the 310 on i used to run a 13/38.after i put the 310 i had to jump up to a 14 front, i was running out of gear and would have to up shift too much once i put the 310 on. just something you might want to play around with.

thanks for the reply anyother tips i know you some of you guys have 310 kits. The kit came in today and i plan on installing it this weekend. Friday i'll call esr get some tips from them but i was hoping to get more tips from you guys. Elevation is sea level here in houston if that helps on the jetting. i believe will need a tool to set the rings on the piston but other than that i think i have everything i will need.

I have the ESR 310 on my bike.I tried the 180 main with 50 pilot.May be good for the heat cycles, but it wouldnt run past 1/2 throttle for the real break in.Im running a 170 main with the 50 pilot at about 350ft alt. This is still a little fat in the summer, but runs great right now(around 50 degrees). You can get the rings on without the tool, just be sure to get the rings lined up with the pins in the grooves.I checked the piston clearance and ring gap with feeler gauges for peace of mind,ESR's stuff is usually right on.Get some dieletric grease and coat the head o-rings before you install. It helps hold them in place while installing and conditions them too.Rub the bore and piston down with some 2 stroke oil also.Your temps should be in the 180-190 range.

Well actually its more complex than that, what ratio of oil to gas are you running? The more oil you run the (like 20:1) the bigger jets because the kinematic viscosity of the solution is higher requiring bigger jets for the same mass flow of fuel. Also temp/ humidity and elevation play a part as well. I bet they are running a thin synthetic oil at a much higher mixture ratio than you zedicus00.

Zed,Ive wondered the same thing about the jets. The guy I get most of my stuff from has had a couple 310s and his jetting was close to mine. Are you using a Keihin?I have the ESR 7 porting,V force reeds,38 a/s carb, and a Sparks mx pipe.Uni filter with no lid on the box. What setup you using?I would think at your altitude, you would be jetted way down.

BTW tx_250,get the wrench from motion pro for tightening the cylinder base bolts. Its well worth the 15-20 bucks it costs.

So far I had to buy a torque 3/8” wrench $20 a compression tool to press on the piston rings $10 then a few other things razor blades & parts cleaner to remove the old gaskets and filler gauge to check ring gaps. Last night I stripped it down and now I putting everything back together im taken a break cause I connected the piston and rod then realized I have to take it apart and fit the piston inside the cylinder first then connect the piston and rod. Its been fun… a good learning anyway I want to be able to work on the whole bike myself. Thanks for the help guys I’ll keep you posted. One more thing the piston arrow does point towards the front of the bike right?

yeah.. it points towards the exhaust port. good luck

Leave the piston on the rod.Have someone help you slide the cylinder down on the piston while sqeezing the rings closed. Its pretty easy and you wont have to deal with the circlips while trying to hold the cylinder. And be sure the circlips seated in the piston, they have caused more than one failure by coming out.The motion pro wrench allows you to torque the nuts easily.

I also got that repacking material for the silencer so I’ll redo that in the morning to night I’m soaking it in gas to get all the nasty *** junk out of it. I also got some maxima castor 927 that what esr recommended. Well its all together just got to put all the lil things back on carb, pipe, head stay and plastic First thing in the morning I’ll start it and run it through its cycles hopefully by 2:00 or 3:00 I’ll be able to see what this lil motor can do. I'll keep you guys posted.... thanks for all the input.

I am at 2000 ft. I have a 310R and a ESR 330R. Both bikes love 162 to 170 jets depending on the day. Anything over 170 and the power falls off bad and plugs foul. 38MM Air Strykers on both.

Yes, the TRX11 porting. It really rips on the top end. :)

I got it all installed!! It hauls a**. I tried it out at a school yard so I only had maybe a 120 yards of room so I couldn’t get past 3rd gear but I could tell it ripped. I was worried I would run through the gears to quick but they actually seem taller because the bike revs out longer. Every gear wants to come wants to come up 3rd seems real long and pulls really hard. It feels like the faster you go the harder the bike pulls. I was really surprised with the power. Now I just need some time on the seat to get used to it.
