air scoops

me and my dad argue about air scoops all the time. i say that they force air buy the motor keeping it cooler which equals more power. he says it does crap.

what do u guys think?

ive always wanted to test if it does anything with like a thermometer dipstick cause i have them but dont really know

thats what they are suposed to do, but alot of the scoops you buy now are more of fashion thingies than there are permormance parts, next time you see a picture of a quad with scoops see if they are angled out like they should be to catch more air, or if they are straight forward to give more room for your stickers

They may help a little by directing more air to your engine, but i highly doubt they do much. More of an apperance thing i think.

they Make a great place to put stickers and we all know stickers = horsepower... :D

mine work pretty well,never actually tested them with a temp guage but they must work...

One of my observations... They sure get muddy on muddy rides!:eek: Also another thing to clean!:rolleyes:

I don't believe it was a wise investment on my part riding where it just builds up with mud.

Do these allow "more" air through them??

If I had the time, I would like to test using streamers and a fan... But the hassel to take it off... Test... And then put them back on!:confused: Nah... I don't think so.

I do think they make the atv "look" more high performance.:D

I never tested them on my 400EX, but I had a VW Beetle (uh it was aircooled too) and I forgot to put the stock cooling shrouds back on it....Yeah it overheated really bad. No fire but it melted my starter and some other things!

ya they do direct air towards the engine, y else would the 450r come stock with them???

450r has a radiator with the scoop attached..... but the 400ex scoops probably dont do much of anything, like was said, they are just a place for stickers and for looks... maybe it lowers the temp 1-2 degrees?

I'd say the do a bit of extra cooling, but if you're serious about getting better cooling, I'd say upgrade to a bigger oil tank and a larger oil cooling rad.

heres some scoups i bought off ebay from a gay who makes em and sells em. i can give u his ebay name if u want to contact him/ he has these powdercoated black ones and also ones that are chrome (mirror finish)

I made some myself and I certainly noticed a difference. There was no increase in power. The motor ran a bit cooler.

I have UM Performance scoops and I think they cool your engine down a little... But I bought mine to put stickers on and to look good!
