You can polish anything, but it's usually aluminum. Put a magenet on it and see, if it sticks it not aluminum or stainless, if it doesn't things are looking good for polishing.

Try a metal polish called MAAS. You could find it in the household cleaners isle at Walmart. No hard rubbing and works great.

This is my polished E-series, it took a few hours to do by hand.

Started with a course grit sand paper to get the brush marks out of the aluminum and then continued in stages using finer grits until it starts to get a little shiney. I ended with a very fine wet/dry sand paper and then applied multiple coats of Mothers Aluminum Polish. Looks pretty sweet....but it's kind of a pain to keep it that shiney.

could i just use mothers polish for my pipe or wont it work.

The Mothers Polish alone might clean up the metal a little, but it would still be pretty dull. You have to remove all of the factory brush marks to get it real shiney.

sounds kind of risky alittle i dont really feel like screwing up a $270 slip on pipe right now if i had all the stuff to do it i would but for right now i'm not gonna try it.

Baja's are easy to polish. First I would recommend taking 220 grit or 180 grit sandpaper to the insides the rings. This takes the sharpness of them away.

Then do everything in 400-600 grit paper. Move up to about 1500 grit or steel wool for the best results. Then use a lot of elbow grease and mothers polish. This will get them looking similar to chrome in about an hour per rim depending on how good you use your time.

There really isn't anything to it.:D

All that to just get them dirty!?!? I had a show truck and polished everything. Driving it in the rain would piss me off knowing I had to do it all over again. Where do you polishing guys live? In the Land of Cleanliness?!?!? In my opinion! Unless your riding in the Desert Sands get it dirty, hose it off and start over! Polishing anything that goes in the dirt is a waste of time. (In my earlier MAAS post, that rim took under 5 minutes and is good enough.) Ride More Polish Less! But that is just MY Opinion!

uhh some people take pride in their things and like to make them nice and clean, and still get them dirty.........its not a sin

But a few hours polishing is not pride. It's insane. Just get on it and ride. You'll feel better in the morning!

i agree with you, but you cant argue with someone's opinion, if they want to polish their pipe and rims and motor and frame for 5 hours let them... if you dont wanna clean your bike for even 10 minutes then dont, stop arguing about what they do with THEIR bike

Agreed. And just to add to that, I only spent that much time to polish my E-Series once. After that it's just a matter of cleaning it up with Mothers once in a while.

This summer I will be powder coating gloss clear over all of my polished parts (except rims). No more oxidation!

I like the stage 1 alot. I do alot of trail riding and not so much MX, and that's what they recommed it for. I think it's pretty good all around, but you will notice the extra hp/torque in the bottom to mid rpm range.

I have never tried the stage 2 so I really have nothing to compare it to though.

Did you lose any top end power? Do you do any hillclimbing? How is it there?

No, you still gain some top end power, just not as much.

And yeah, I do some hillclimbing. Plenty of power to pull some pretty good sized sand pits with no problem.

OK thanks mcshaw16! So you would recommend? And 1 more ?. Are you able to "putt" around or do you have to stay on the gas? I sometimes just cruise around the woods looking for stuff.

mcshaw16
02-16-2006, 06:28 AM
Yeah, you can still putt around just fine.

I would def. recommend the stage 1 for trail riding applications, I'm pretty happy with it.
