want to build a nasty 400ex

i need some help and some ideas,just bought 04 400 ex,has w/b slip on and jet kit,i really like this quad but want to build a sleeper,mosly trail and drag racing my buddies,what does it take to hang with 450's honda or yfz's,need ideas on what carbs to buy and does the w/b slip only work with stock head pipe or can i buy w/b header to replace my stock one,i know some slip ons only work with stock header. who are some of the good builders out there,or where to buy the parts and save some money,never hurts to get a deal. thanks for reading and thanks for the help

You need a really large bore or some type of stroker setup coupled with all the other necessities to hang with them. My GT Thunder setup lets me hang with them no prob ;) :D

it depends on how good of a rider you are. i hang with the 450s and beat them on some trails cause im not scared to go to my limit.a good bore and stroker would help.

bore and stroker make a world of differance. alond with other mods like carb, cam, porting and other stuff. my 440 stroker is a hand full to hang onto. i would recomend this set up to anyone.

slap an xr650 engine in there...looks like a 400....and it is possible.

A good strong 426 High compression will run out pretty good and you don't have to woory about reliability. A 440 makes great power and it pulls me close to the 450's, and i am 280. helps to be like ride_red666 said and be able to push your riding limits farther than the other guy.

That's what I was going to suggest. There was one on ebay awhile back and looked like a stock 400.
