for those that have done a cr500 conversion how did you extend the kicker to get past the frame?
thanks

use a 89 yz250 kicker, it fits the splines and clears the frame, I was told that most of the atc guys with cr500 engines do this.

so is the 89 kicker a one year only deal?

i just wanted to show that i finished the conversion. I used a cr250 kicker and bent it out a little. yes it does vibrate some but not too bad for me. :D

i wish i had a tig. it is a miller 185 mig with a aluminum spool gun. you can see it in the above pic over the left part of the fender.

Take off that front tire, and throw it away.... it won't be on the ground much anyway. I miss my ATC's....

I was gonna build a atc w/cr500 motor for mx. But the minimium +6 swinger would cut down turning radias too much, my atc250r w/ short track setup(holds alittle over a gallon of fuel) already drinks gas, I can't imagine it with a 500 motor. The +1 swinger on my bike made the turning radias noticable larger, any more, I don't know if I would want to use any bigger on a swinger on it. It wouldn't suite my needs.
If I did dune riding, I would have put a cr500 motor, +12 swinger, top end pipe, and paddles on it a long time ago. My next things to do with the atc250r is a custom frame, ktm 85sx forks, custom tripples, and maybe a no-link rear end. Pro-peg nerf bars are on the way for it also. I am going to race it next year on mx.

I race with 2 guys who put cr 500 motros in 250r frames. One extended the kicker and I am not sure how he did it. The other guy shifted the motor to the right in the frame and had sprockets machined and welded together to get him the offset he needed to get everything in-line. He has not had any problems with it so far.

i took another cr500 kicker hub and cut 3/8" off of it. i then welded it to the backside of the cr250 kicker to space it out 3/8" from the engine. I then heated the kicker and bent it the way i wanted it. It works great. If you look at the pics you can see that i flipped the brake pedal. i did that so i get a full kick. i can start it with 3 kicks cold and one hot:D
