I replaced the piston in my 91 250x put it all together and could not get it started. After cranking on it for some time it would backfire once real loud. I took the head back off and checked the cam timing and it was not lined up with TDC anymore the chain is slipping. The cam tensioner is extended all the way and still there is slack in the chain. What new chain should I get? Is there a easy way to get the old one off and the new one on without removing the side case?

I have a 250x also-I just put a D.I.D. cam chain on and had no problems so-far. I had a local shop do it- I didn't feel like ripping the side-case off myself. Good luck----

Thanks for the help I am going to replace the cam sproket also. I think I can handle the side case after the pistion instal and removeing the head 2 times trying to find out what was wrong. Should I replace anything else when I have it open?

I would check your clutch- You have to take that out to get to the cam chain. This would be a good time to change it if you have to.
