The Great Lakes Quad Series will be racing at Byron,IL on April 8th on the original big track. Class structures are available at www.greatlakesquadseries.com The 06 classes are not up yet but are basically the same except changes in the pee wee class and the addition of a "air hammer" class. Air cooled up to 500cc's. This gives the 400ex's,Warriors, Etc a class to race in. More info as the season gets closer. Also heard they will have a quad only race on Sunday April 9th on the quad track.

you guys should show some respect.. he only built that quad track because the quads complained about having to run the last motos of the day.. its not the best but its not bad for a first year track.. give it some time , he will change it up some.

i have never complained about when i have gone on that track......it'd honestly be worth the wait to ride the vintage track....but even if it was still like that there would be bike and atv people fighting about how one thing messed up another's track conditions.....so yeah, i guess he deserves some praise for being nice enough to split them up....but if you're gonna start something like that, make sure you can do it right......im not saying that he didnt care or didnt try his best to make it good....but if you're gonna go through the effort to make a whole different track for quads.....please take the time to do it right......i'd rather wait a couple years for a good track then have one that was slapped together right away just so someone could shut the quad guys up

400exracer08
02-14-2006, 09:47 PM
Well, it does not matter now, last year is over. Lets see what Arron can do this year to make the track better. It is alot better to have a track this just ours. But it was not the best track or the worst. It gave us somewhere to race for the weekend when pec or other places are not racing. Arron is trying the best he can do. Lets just hope this year it is a little harder of a track. Do not give it right away. I think getting done racing at 1 is alot better than 5. When it is 90 outside less time is better. They more that we have out there and we look like we want a good track then he will make it. He just need the people to race on it to make it worth the extra money.

quaddy87
02-15-2006, 10:34 AM
it may not be the funnest track...but when it comes down to it imo racing is racing!

02-15-2006, 01:09 PM
everybody should come to the Great Lakes Quad Series race there on april 8th. there will be a ton of riders from wisconsin. god competition and we get to ride the old track which is awesome.

FHKracingZ
02-15-2006, 02:25 PM
quaddy87 is right... every track will suck if there no compitition.. theres always usally competition at byrons track.

400exracer08
02-15-2006, 05:17 PM
There we go that is alot better. More people that show up and support the track it will get alot better. We do not need to say f*** that track or what not. With stuff said like that it will never get better..

No, he built it because he wanted grant money from the state of Illinois. You know the tax money that goes into the Illinois Trails fund but always seems to finance other projects other than IL parks and trails.Tthe only way he could get the grant is if he built a quad track, so he got a bobcat and built a cheap little track to qualify and get the grant. That is just what I heard through the grapevine though...

For those people out there that say that it will get better in time, though....how do you know that for sure? His money is in the bikes, and has always been. He gets that hill full of people wanting to ride on the vintage track, and that hill is at least 4x as big as the spot the quads get.

Yeah, you might say i'm complaining again and should have respect for what hes trying to do, but just look at what he did. Hes got a huge vintage for the bike guys with plenty of parking space, and a quad track thats not even close with 1/4 of the parking space......obviously it wasnt thought out and was, like i said, thrown together to get the quad guys off his back......i've been there plenty of times, so dont tell me i dont support it. All i'm saying is that if im gonna pay a wad every weekend to race, and hes gettin all that money, it better be to ride a decent track.

Do any of you ever go to KI in Oregon? I went there the other day, my first time on a track and I dont think I did to bad. It was so muddy you could hardly get enough speed to hit the doubles so I just drove over them.

I want to start racing this year but I want to practice some more before I go. I am for sure going to race at Waterman next winter though.

Hey 400exracer...where is WI you from? i plan on racing nearly every weekend....i'm always looking for someone to run with. i think i got a guy from elkhorn who will be racing with me as well. did you hear that lake geneva is running quad races this year?

400exracer08

i heard that track in lake geneva is really tight.

TREDZ71
03-06-2006, 08:59 AM
yah...lake geneva is tight....and, at times, dark. my bro runs bikes there and it is dark....especially in the back section. it's a bit like byron...maybe tighter. i've never run a night race and have always wanted to race lake geneva....

quaddy87
03-06-2006, 05:35 PM
If you want to run a good night race you should come to warren, il where i'm from. they run 3 races a year but they are big ones...most of the A riders that race around here race there. 400exracer08 races there in the A class too. idk if its updated yet but the website is www.racethestorm.com u can check out some results to see they get good competition.

Well I will be laid up for 2 weeks. I was working out at the health club today and dropped a dumb bell on my hand. It sliced my hand wide open. Had to go to emergency room and get 18 stitches in it. It was pretty gross. Really sucks

aman

That totally sucks man.....I cut my face open in a race last year just by hittin somethin on the handlebars really hard....still dont know what it was though......:huh........that was only 6 stitches though

My sponsor set me up on a stock 450r. i tore it down completely and rebuilt it for mx (about $7k in aftermarket goodies). i'm building it in my basement and i am putting everything on it except for the tires, axel, and arms. it will be skinny enough to haul up my steps and into the garage....then, in the garage, i am going to finish the build...axel, tires, arms, etc. my garage is not heated...so the basement is a great alternative.

Of course I am severely GLQS biased but I say it's worth your time to head to Byron on Saturday April 8th. There are some very fast WI racers that race this series, in all classes. It'd be nice to get some IL guys to this race to see how good of a series it really is. Some of the other races would be worth your time to come too also. Hope to see you guys on Saturday!!!

After you guys are done racing byron saturday morning head over to stateline mx ( pecatonica ). Its only 10-15 from byron and its the best SX track around. www.statelinemx.com

I am thinking about heading over to Byron for my first race this upcoming weekend. I have only ridden the track at KI in Oregon. Are atv tracks like that one or are the jumps a little smaller. That one kind of seems like a cross between a sx track and a mx track...correct me if I am wrong.

I will be starting out in C class until I get used to racing. I have been riding quads for a long time but now that I got my race ready quad I want to go tear some **** up.

Oh, do you need riding pants and a chest protector at Byron?

Also any advice would be appreciated. Starting hints....

baker250r
04-03-2006, 10:49 AM
its motorcross track? lol big jumps.. little jumps. woops... stuff to make it hard for u to go fast. lol and u need helmet, chest protector, boots above ankles, gloves, and long sleeve shirt. if u doint have a chest protector, i can borrow u one for the weekend.

tazman7
04-03-2006, 10:55 AM
ok thanks, maybe it just seems hard since it has been so damn muddy over there that you cant get enough traction to get enough speed to clear everything...the top half of the course is dry but the bottom is a different story..

300ex mxracer
04-03-2006, 06:44 PM
ki tracks is very easy when it is dry but when its muddy you have a hard time clearing anything. it is mostly mx. they are building a sx track but only for bikes:( how is the place now? im tryin to get down there but i havent had time

I went over to Byron yesterday to practice and now I am thinking about going over there tomorrow to race. My question is that I have only rode on that track one time and I have gone to KI in Oregon twice. That is the only track riding I have ever done. Do you think I should practice more or go race in C class tomorrow?

I feel like there are some areas that I can improve on (doubles, whoops)

Or do you think that I should just go watch tomorrow so I can see how everybody else lines up and how they ride the course, then go race next weekend?

aman
04-08-2006, 01:33 PM
I'd just go ahead and give it a shot.......I've only been to one other track besides that one and I thought it was pretty simple the first time......just take your time and be careful w/ the whoops.....the only double they got is that one before the last turn to go to the finish line, and it aint too bad....if you really arent sure about it though make sure you watch A and B before ya go out......id definitely race it though.....its a pretty easy track

tazman7
04-08-2006, 01:48 PM
Ok thanks, I might as well just go then...

Since I have never raced (only watched) I dont really know how everything works, such as when to line up, how to line up right (I know you want it to be packed down where you put your rear quad tires), do you go all out in practice, how many laps do they run?

Doesnt the AMA issue you a number? Because on my quad I have number 13 on it from the past owner-

Sorry if these might sound like stupid questions , but I dont want to get to the track and look like a complete *** on my first time, ill be nervous enough.

aman
04-09-2006, 12:35 AM
Lets see.....for line up you go to the riders meeting and Aaron will say the order of the classes, then when your class is up you wait across from the gates for someone to announce your number, and thats when you get to line up. As for practice, everyone usually just goes out at once and you get 5 laps.

As for ATVA stuff, the only thing you get from them is the ATVA Card, so if ya got that ur good. They dont assign any numbers or anything as long as you dont have the same one as someone else. Lol, i can understand why ur so nervous though, the first time is definitely the worst.

Your brother rips it up!
I wish Cory Gauthier would have been healthy and raced ( he broke his hand training in FL before Gatorback), him and your brother would have battled for sure.

The reason they didn't give him practice is because they were behind over an hour already and the first motos were starting. If we were on time he may not even have been able to race.

Hope to see more non-WI racers at our series. I know they plan on making more of a midwest series sometime in the future but need to get rider #'s up first.

 What happened to you man? lol......but yeah, i'd recommend Full Throttle Powersports out of Stockton, Illinois, they are pretty reasonable imo......i'm actually getting a whole bunch of stuff back from them right now.....darn frame is finally back from lonestar......a couple long nights and i should have a yfz again......maybe if i'm lucky ill see ya down there.....wouldnt be too hard to find ya

tazman7
04-12-2006, 04:41 PM
I dont know I might be to fast for ya- haha About 20 minutes ago I got pissed and threw my crutches on the ground and said screw it im walking, I seem to be doing good, but its slow going. I mean im not ready for jumping jacks or anything.

I called Forward Motion today and they said that they are not taking anymore incoming work because they are moving stores- So I emailed the guy that runs Byron and he suggested me to take my engine to Garry Borelli in Mendota Il. Or to Rick Dickenson at DHV Racing....anybody ever use one of them? I would like to take it to a professional so I know its done right.

Does anybody know roughly how much this will cost me to get fixed? (broken rod bearing)

Do they always charge you a gate fee at Byron even if you are racing?

I think that is a rip off-

400exracer08
04-16-2006, 11:07 AM
Well if you think that this is a rip off you should of went down to mendota last night. It costed me $15 dollars to get in the door. $10 at the gate and then another $5 for a pit pass. I might as well just bent over and take it in the butt. That is a joke how much it cost to get in. I understand like a $8 one but no $15 that is a joke. That is per person

tazman7
04-16-2006, 04:44 PM
I know- that is highway robbery- To race you need an AMA Card- Thats $40 ---- Then a district card $20 ----then a gate fee $10 -----then to race $20-$25.... I understand charging people that arent racing the gate fee but to charge people that are racing a gate fee is ridiculous.

baker250r
04-16-2006, 08:20 PM
be happy u get to ride at all man.... they gotta make money somehow.... if they dont make money, there goes ur riding place.

aman
04-18-2006, 09:49 AM
They can make money, thats not a big deal.....but they dont have to rob us dry in the process.....when you race every weekend or close to that adds up pretty darn quick, and you still have the quad to consider for maintenence and stuff. Yeah, i appreciate the fact that people are trying to give us places to ride, but you have to make it reasonable in order for people to be able to afford it.

tazman7
04-18-2006, 05:55 PM
good way to put it aman!!

baker250r
04-18-2006, 08:59 PM
but u dont realize how much they pay for insurance a day, just to be open....

aman
04-18-2006, 10:43 PM
I guess i did kinda forget about that whole ordeal......but still, it really is a two sided issue. Sure, they have to pay for that, but we still have to pay to get in.

400exracer08
04-19-2006, 05:59 AM
Well enough about this subject, we are not going to change anything. We are all going to pay the gate fee no matter what because we all have a dier need to race and we are going to do whatever it takes.

Speaking of racing is anyone going to race byron this weekend?

aman
04-19-2006, 09:47 AM
It's a possibility.......i havent been riding mx for over 5 months so i think im just gonna stay home and practice......btw.....if ne one would be interested in riding at my place give me a holler.....got some trails, pasture, and an mx track....you might even like it better than byrons hilltop track :D......lol

THERE IS NO PLACE TO PASS AND THE TRACK IS PRETTY MUCH ONE LINED! LIKE I SAID BEFORE ITS AN ALRIGHT TRACK TO PRACTICE AT, BUT I WONT RACE THERE. AND I LOVE JUST SITTING AT THE STARTING LINE WAITING FOR THE RUBBER BAND TO SNAP BACK!!!!:eek2: HEY BY THE WAY R U GOING THERE TO PRACTICE TONIGHT?

It does not matter what track that you are on racing or riding. The point is that if there is a track to ride on and then we still have places to ride. You can race warren on saturday night and go to byron on sunday. So it does not matter. I like both tracks and i know alot of people do to also. A TRACK IS A TRACK SOMEWHERE TO RIDE!

aman
05-08-2006, 09:39 PM
Thats actually what i plan on doing.......not sure what class to run yet  ............might give B one last shot before i try my luck in A......idk.....hopefully harbach shows his ars up so i can give him a run for his money......last time i had to go to the ER for stitches......

aman
05-09-2006, 10:08 AM
yeah, true.......but who knows, the number of people at the track each year has been slowly getting bigger.....seems like you always see at least a couple new faces at the track each time......there should be a good turnout for bikes though like there pretty much always is

aman

Hopefully it will be raceable this weekend.....supposed to get alot of rain so idk......theres only a 20% chance on sunday though so maybe they will be able to fix it up and make it a go

Raced there today and I am having trouble keeping it up on the pipe. What kind of sprockets do you two stroke guys run at Byron?

If I go into a corner in third gear it bogs, and if I go into it in second I have to shift RIGHT away.

i ran the last race at byron last year on my 265r and had 14-36 gearing worked great ill be there for this years series on a white ltr but will miss a few due to i got some of my finger cut off in the chain and sprocket:mad:

Hey thanks man. Why did you make the change to 4 stroke? (Just curious, not trying to start anything) Because I have thought about it a few times but I have never rode one and I love my R

HiperEX
05-22-2006, 07:49 AM
well first i traded my R for a sportbike from my bud then got sick of it and it sucked watching them ride, and 4stroke technology these days are superior and there easier to go fast on, but i still love 2strokes if my bud ever decides to sell my old R i will buy it back

I'd definitely consider trying one out then, because they are a whole different ballgame from what an r or any other two stroke would be. You can lug 450s around w/ out worrying too much about staying in power or not, because its pretty much always there as long as you arent a couple gears too high......Are you comin down to Byron this weekend then? If you are you can take a spin on mine if ya want for one of the practice runs since i run two classes.....

Yeah I will be there this weekend. I got my quad geared right tonight so it has balls out of the corners now. Im excited now!

If I could just drive it up the pit area or something that would be good enough to me. I dont really trust myself enough yet to drive somebody elses quad on the track...plus if I broke something I would feel horrible.

ill see you there- I drive a black s10 ZR2 with a red enclosed trailer- so come say hi..

I am just racing quad C- this will only be my third race

aman
05-25-2006, 09:22 PM
Due to my bad riding skills and the inablility to do very well on my yfz, i have decided to move back down to C to ride w/ people more my speed......:D....no not really, but gl with that man, it will be interesting how the old two stroke will hold up agaisnt the 450s and stuff.....hiperex was gonna be racing C this weekend too but he couldnt round up nerfs in time so hes gonna sit er out.....

tazman7
05-26-2006, 09:27 PM
The "old" two stroke seems to hold its own again most 450's. I beat some out of the gates, and others I dont. I might try starting out in second this week to see how she goes. I got it geared better so hopefully that will be easier on the shifting end. (no more fighting the powerband in the corners)

aman
05-26-2006, 11:06 PM
Yeah, that will definitely help alot......i had 18s on 8 inch rims and i ran out of gear real fast w/ the stock ratio.....bumping the back down one or two did the trick for me....im sure its a bit more challenging for you coming in/out of the corners though because you have to keep it in the pipe, whereas i can just lug it......

second might not be a bad idea but you might want to practice doin it a couple times before u do it in a race......its gotta be dam hard to hear over all the thumpers....:(.......im hopin i can find a chain tomorrow over at the local dealer cause mine broke when i was riding tonight.....crossing my fingers i can find one or else im gonna have to pull out the 250f and go vintage....:huh

tazman7
05-27-2006, 11:01 AM
Yeah I always thought that my quad was loud until I pulled up to the line with them 450's!

for the nuke series, do they run all the same quad classes? on the same track? can i run more than one class, like 13-15 and C? im gonna try to get up to bryon sunday for the nuke #4

tazman7
06-07-2006, 04:16 PM
Yes all of the quads race on the hilltop track- I think that you can run in more than one class you just have to pay $25 for each class that you race in. Id call to make sure though- check out www.motobyron.com

How do they pick gate spots for the heat races?

It seems to me like every damn race I am either the very last pick or the second to last....Its like the very few times I have had a good gate pick I have taken the holeshot...but with being on the very end you cant get ****...I always have to go about 30 feet farther than everybody else with the way the course is layed out..

i know the second moto is how you finished in the first moto. i think the first moto starts are your standings in points/ past finishes, but im not completely sure.
