Need a little more info... riding type, woods, sand mud etc. Also tire height and selection would help. Is the quad stock or has some motor and suspension mods? All these will help you get a beter answer.

I tryed a 14 tooth on my 400ex then a 14/39 combo and eventually went back to stock gearing, I personally like it better. But if you just want it to have a little more bottom end power then i'd just get a 14 tooth.

Or 13 tooth if it's an '05 or '06.

ya if u want more bottom end drop a tooth in either the front or rear. i went down to a 14t but u seem too lose alot of topend. i like the 15t cause it rips both in top end and bottom good that way. i also hav a 16t but losed too much bottom end for my riding. change it until u find one the suites you best. for each rinding style decide what sprocket u like the best.

I agree with experimenting with the front sprocket. You can get new front sprockets (Primary Drive brand) for $6 each from Rocky Mountain ATV.

Changing the amount of teeth on the front sprocket will have a fairly dramatic change on the feel of the power from the motor.

Changing the amount of teeth on the rear sprocket will have a more subtle change in the feel of the power ffrom teh motor.

From what i've read changing one tooth on the front sprocket is similar to changing 2-3 teeth on the rear.

There are some calculators out there that will do the math for you;)

I believe the formula is to divide the number of teeth on the front sprocket into the number of teeth on the rear sprocket. This will let you know how many rear sprocket teeth are equal to one front sprocket tooth. For instance, if you had a 15 tooth front sprocket and a 30 tooth rear sprocket, change one tooth on the countershaft would be the same as changing 2 teeth on the rear sprocket.
