I need to know what to torque the front sprocket and the rear sprocket bolts to. Anyone who responds, please make sure that the response is accurate. Thank you all.

HAHA, My bad fellas, I have a 2004 Honda 400EX. Stock sprockets as well. Sorry about that. I just got in a hurry.

Ide have to dig out my book for actual specs but just hit bottom & give it a quarter turn Ive been doing that for years with several gear changes & no problems

Allright Dave, I appriciate the input, If it wouldnt be too much of a hassle, could i ask that you look in your book for the actual torque specs. I dont mean to be a pain in the but. I got a manual for my quad on the way, but i am trying to get my quad put back together to go riding tommorow. I would appricate it greatly.

My Honda service manual calls for 43 lb-ft on the rear "final drive sprocket nut". There is none listed for the front sprocket. I usually just apply some blue loctite and cinch the bolts down.

That sounded high so I checked the Clymer manual, same number; 43 ft-lbs for the rear sprocket bolts.
No numbers for the front but I use Blue thread locker and snug them up too:)

be careful with your 2 front sprocket bolts...heads will brake off easily. 10mm head bolts go to like 7 - 8ft lbs with some loctite and u will be good to go

Ive been studying the hell out of my Clymers book & the rear gear is the only spec I could find everything to do with the front gear when its removed etc. & put back I found no spec for it anywhere Ide say 20lbs. would be just fine there very small bolts & all they do is hold that retainer plate into the groove & it doesnt take too many foot lbs. to do that ,like I said hit bottom & give it a quarter turn ,they never loosened & you dont wanna break those little bolts either

Yeppers! The first time I replaced the front sprocket I snapped one off.
Don't use a 1/2" drive ratchet:chinese:

My Haynes says the following:
Final Drive
Drive (engine) sprocket bolts ... No specified torque
Driven (axle) sprocket bolts ... 59 Nm (44 ft-lbs)
I think i put mine to 7 ft-lbs

front sprocket torque it 20-25lbs of torque be sure you set the torque wrench correctly. Rears anywhere from 40-45lbs.. also be sure to use loc tite.

goodntight, read it and say it, if you hold the O, it sounds a little like some german word. hence its german torque

Not arguing, but just curious as to where that torque spec came from....sounds pretty high for those little bolts ?

Yeah, 20 ft-lbs sounds like a little much for those little 10mm bolts. Once again, not arguing I am just stating a point. I appriciate the help everyone.

I don't think them 2 bolts do any major load bearing. Its the acutely clip that keeps the sprocket from flying off. My 3 cents :P

Yeah, That is why the teath are different on the clip and on the sprocket. They are opposite, I noticed. I will torque them down to 10 ft-pds and use loctite. That should do it.
