does anybody know much about a 4 gear tranny for a 400ex, is it something that you can do easy and switch back to 5 gear...please let me know

man if it's just tosave weight...it won't work....and the only ay to have a 4 speed would be totake out 5th gear and make a spacer for it.

If anything, you should want a 6 or 7th gear.

if you remove the 5th gear in your transmission you are going to need to have a spacer cut for it. you can get away with a collar since you are not going to be putting it under a load.
its going to take you a complete gasket kit 2 specialized tools (flywheel puller and cast splitter) unless you want to screw up your cases.
it will consume around 2 - 5 hours to do a good job of removing the engine, then disassembling.
worth it?
up to you, but its a lot of work

Id also go way up on the front sproket or get lower 1-4 so its more like the big 450 bikes with the 4 speeds. Your gonna lose a lot up top unless you change the gearing...Thats my .02
