My girlfriend is thinking about getting a quad, but she doesn't think she could handle a 400 or a 450. Is there any girl racers out there. If there are please post some pics of your ride or of you racing to maybe help her make her decision.

id say get a 300ex. good starting quad and not to big for her, and theres a ton of after market companies that make just about anything for it incase she wants to modd it.

ya 300ex would be perf. but i think she could handle a 400ex, if she gets good, she'll want bigger, i think a 400 ex would be good, but then again a 300ex would be good too, they're fun, and decent speed

I had a 250x (almost the exact same as a 300ex performance wise) and I got bored with it in two months. I sold it and got my Dale. If she wants to RACE i wouldnt get anything less than a 400 unless she is REALLY small, really young, or really timid. But I would get a 400 at least.

Im only 5'6" 110 lbs and I ride a Cannondale and have raced on several 450s

Well, I'm a girl and I started on a 300ex. Keeped that for about a year and then moved on to a 400ex. I've had my 400 for about 5 years now and I still love it! I rebuilt it myself and plan on keeping it for a long time.... A 400 imo would be a great starter quad, it's something that she wouldn't get tired of like a 300ex:) http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a329/awsomeaussies206/400ex2.jpg

heres mine

i started off with a 400ex, sold it the second i knew the 450r's were coming out.. now the 450r isnt fast enough for me

just let her know, she will start riding, and just keep wanting more and more power.. so try and get her on a 450r

my best friend, is about 5'6, tiny girl, and she rides the hell out of my quad..

I started out on a 300ex as well, got bored after 6 months and found myself tying to take it where I was getting myself into trouble being underpowered.
The 400ex was kinda intimidiating for the first couple weeks of riding then I got very used to it, by the end of that year I was wanting MORE POWER :D I know have more and still want more :blah:

A 400ex is a VERY good choice for a lady rider just learning,so is a Z400.

Just give her alot of time and patience and help make her feel llike shes doing GREAT!! She just nees some encourgament Im sure ;)

Who knows, she might be one of those girls that whoops up on the boys riding! :p

a 450r is too much if it is her first quad. id say a 400ex depending how big she actually is. If shes too small then a 300ex

the 300 isnt that much smaller than the 400 ex, I'd just go for the 400, its just a better all around quad, and in a pinch, you can use hers for a backup if yours deadlines before a race.....

My wife loved my 250X when I had it, and she did just fine riding my friends 400EX. She says the Raptor is to powerful for her taste though.

I would say either a 300EX, 400EX or an LTZ/KFX our be a great starter. Let her sit on them and see what she is the most comfortable on. If possible, try to find someone that will let her ride each and let her pick what she likes. Don't force her into something she is not comfortable with. If she likes the 300EX, find a cheaper used one. That way if she does decide to upgrade later you can sell the 300EX and not lose much money.

Naw.....just get her a YFZ450 so you don't have to keep buying quads!!! I went from a 400ex, to a Banshee, to my YFZ 450 - and it would have been easier to just start with the YFZ! They are easy enough to ride in stock form - all corked up from the factory....when she's ready for more power, just take out the restriction in the pipe, put on an ESR kit and do the cam mod, and it's a beast!!! :) It handles great........even stock......I raced mine stock for over a year......and did very well.

first of all, is she absolutely positive she wants to ride adn ride a lot? or is this going to be a once or tiwce a year venture for her? if it is going to be a one or 2 times a year thingy...get her a 300ex, if she is going to be riding a lot, minimum of 2 or 3 times a month, get her a 400ex, minimum.

i would hate to see her start out on a 450 and only ride sporadically or it be too much for her if she isn't that skilled and won't be riding enough to get the skills needed for that bike.

True....good point....I know quite a few girls that thought they wanted to ride/race, but the first time they crashed, it was all over.

I started out on a beat up old blaster, then i broke it and got a LT250 quadracer, broke it and sold it, took a break from riding then went out and bought a brand new blaster in 2002.

For a first time quad, and wanting to race, IMO i think the blaster is a good one. when she gets bored, put a pipe on it, next put a reed cage in it etc. They are easy to ride and a hel of a lot of fun.

I still feel at home on a blaster, I am 5'1" and 110lbs. I'm now riding my second DVX, The power is awesome but sometimes i feel the bike is a little big. The blaster is so much easier for me to jump and maneuver.

Thats just my 2 cents.

My first quad was a 300EX. If she has never used a clutch and is a timid person, go that route. Since the 400EX now has reverse, it might be a better quad mostly because of handing. I agree w/ someone above, it also depends on how much she will ride it. Any 450 will be too much for a learner bike.

My wife has an 04 z400 and shes still learning, 5' 6" geometry is good for her. I'm sure you could pick up a full on Z400 race quad used for cheap. Best of luck.

Yes. She must be SURE she wants to ride.. If possible, let her ride yours or someones (borrow) for about a day and then if she decides she likes it start out on a trx400ex, simply because its rider friendly, their cheap, and, well, there's plenty around.

400ex is a great starting quad, i would get her a stock one to start with, ez power band and easy to handle, shouldnt get her in to much trouble

i would say start out with a 400ex.. thats what i started on and now i want a 450. but she'd love it, and besides there are alot of nice 400ex's for sale with tons of mods at a good price.. but yeah of course she'll want more power.. but doesnt everyone?.. so id say get her a 400ex.. its not as powerful as a 450r but its not a 300 either. and let her ride the hell out of it, then a few years later or whenever get a 450..
