For MX and XC a lightened flywheel is the only way to go. If the 400 is built at all it has more than enough torque with the stock flywheel. A lightened flywheel lets the motor rev quicker and the loss of torque is hardly noticeable. The motor does not chug along at low speed as well, but for MX there is no reason to. The 400ex has a low enough 1st gear that it is not an issue for XC either. My 440 while still leave in first gear with no throttle applied.

I suggest you do some more indepth research before deciding what you want to do with your flywheel. You might even find something better to spend the money on;)

If you're set on doing something with it pick up a coulple of used ones, lighten one and make the other heavier then you can decide what is best for you:)

yes, research it out. i had one lightened and i did not like it. some people notice that the front end falls face forward more off jumps with one lightened. i didn't notice that but my bike was slower when dragging. you really couldn't feel it but it was after comparing to a bike similar in speed as mine. i put the stock one back in and it was quicker again. i wouldn't do it!
