I have a question. My son will be racing a trx90 Saturday. We are both new at this and I was woundering what gear he should start of the line in. He is 6 and is still learning how to shift gears.

If it's a stock quad you can even take off in 1st just upshift quick into second.
Does he know to put it in gear and hold up on the shift lever? (it's like neutral) and as soon as he lets go it drops into gear.

i do what ^^^^ said. i hold the lever up and pin the throttle wide open then let the shifter down as soon as the flag waves or the gate drops. that is the fastest way i think. since he is so young and can't shift real good have him start out in second or first. then when he is older and a lot more comfortable on the quad have him do what i do.

I would be careful doing that with a 6 yr old. Have him practice some and stand behind him it might surprise ya. I showed Michael that trick the other day when he was practicing his 10 second starts. He has no fear but it opened his eyes when the wheels launched off the ground well over 20". He hit the breaks and yelled "Did you see that ,that was wicked.":D
