I am getting my first ATV this summer. I know how to ride though. Ride my buddies quads all the time. So my dad and I went looking around and he really like the Raptor350. I have my mind set on the TRX400EX. I need to convince him to get me the Honda. I would like to hear what you all think. I am mostly going to be riding on sandy trails type areas. Not dunes though. I might drag a couple a times, not sure yet.

Raptor350 or TRX400EX

Although they both are good machines I'd say the 400ex is going to be a little more reliable and a bit faster. The 400 will have more low end power because of a larger bore which would be better for drags. The 400 has better suspension and handling than the rappy also. Also there are a few more mods available for the 400ex and the resale value would be better also.

All of what he ^^ said is true. The 400EX will be faster and handle better, and how more mods available (as far as I know) to it since it is a larger cc quad, so there is more potential. The biggest difference between the two is the reliability. I don't have a Yamaha so I can't speak from personal experience, but I have heard people say countless times that their, or their buddy's Yamaha spends a lot of time in the shop, where Honda guys have their quads for years and never have a problem. If you want the Honda (and I definitely don't blame you) just ask your dad if he wants to be constantly spending money on making the quad run?

Good luck and welcome to the site!

Both are good quads, but the 400ex is just a little better in every respect.

It is not even close... they are not even in the same league. The raptor 350 can't even beat the 300ex in a magazine shootout.

400EX is the way to go I see. Yeah I love Honda bikes.

I raced a guy on one and had his buddies laughing hard at him. He wasn't in near the same league.... I could burn him horribly from start to finish. I looked back, and he was barely visible. Power is no where near the same. Handling is also worlds apart. Bottom of the line... you can have fun on both, but the 400EX is a much better bike hands down.

Yeah like I said, If you want a bike a little better than a raptor 350 get a 300ex. The 300ex still beats the 350 even after the raptor upgrades. Look up any magazine that had a shootout between them. You can't even compare it to a 400ex.

i burn the **** outta my friends 350 raptor and my other friends warrior. They are no competition but im pretty sure my friend raptor can beat a 300ex.

300ex's don't have as much top end but they are better at everything else. The 350 and 300ex are definitly not drag racers anyway. If you want a quad for top end I would look for a different model.

I have been working out a payment plan now. I think I am going to put $2500 down. My parents are going halfyies on it.

You won't regret it! Last night I just bought a used 2000 400ex for $2000 and I love it!

I do own and like Yamahas, but you cannot beat the quality or reliablity of a Honda!

i bought my 2002400ex for 2500 and havent had to buy anything for it besides rear bearings I love it. I raced a warrior(same as a rapter 350) and it wasnt even close actually my little brother beats the warrior on his blaster! They just dont have enough power.

I sure hope you can beat a Raptor 350 with a 400ex.

Go for the 400ex. More mods, reponds better to mods, better suspension, and overall just a better quad. The 400ex is more comparable to a Z or KFX 400 then the Raptor 350. Raptors are certainly more then Warriors with different plastics (not much, but there are more then that), and they are still reliable bikes. But the 400 beats it in basicly every category.

ok, first of all, yes the 400ex is a way better buy than the 350 Raptor! take it from a guy who used to own one, and the people i ride with all have400ex's! however, the 350 is still a really reliable machine being the motor has been around for so long!

Before selling it to my brother, i had a ton of stuff into it:

http://www.exriders.com/vbb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=206685&perpage=15&pagenumber=1

even with all of these things, i would get smoked by about 3-5 lenghts by my buddy's piped and K@ned 400ex in a 400ft drag! Honestly though, i would rather have an LZ/KFX/DVX over a 400 ex! i think the 400ex is practically bullet proof dont get me wrong, but those machines are about the same cost new, and perform much better! (DOHC, liquid cooled)

anyways, the 350 isnt "junk" in terms of reliabillity from the experiences i have had with it! it all depends on what people do with their quads! if you are stuck on the honda yamaha thing, definetly go with the 400ex. that is my 2cents!

or just buy a predator!:D

Predators are nice but the cost is higher.

I own a 400ex. Two of my friends have Warriors. Both Warriors have been as reliable as my ex (one of them is a 1989 and one is a 2003).

Which is better? The better suspension of the ex is reason enough for me.

I've been offered an even trade on my 2001 ex for the 2003 Warrior (which is in spotless condition). Needless to say, I refused.

man i bought my 400ex last year and i was in the same boat as you... i didnt know which one to buy well a buddy of mine works at the honda shop and i asked him... he said reliability- they are both practically bullet proof he said we hardly ever find one of the two in the shop... then he told me to take both of them out for a weekend... I took both and theyre night and day difference just sitting there the seat of the 350 was much more comfortable than the 400s but then when riding the suspension of the 400 really stood out between the two. Speed- the 400 will dog the 350 a 300ex will eat a 350 the 350 is fun to ride but slow. plus the 350 is a six speed and constantly has to be shifted.. althogh when i was buying the 350 was the only one with reverse.. but now the 400 has reverse.. by all meens the 400 is a much better buy.. and if ur dad still wants the 350 well atleast get a 300ex its better than a 350 pm me if u have any more ?s

like someone said earlier in this thread the rappy is a worrior with a little less weight and new plastics.i had a worrior,i liked it at first but i soon found out that you have to work on them all the time, the frames are weak and the motor had to be replaced and it was only 3 years old. i do regular oil changes and everything but it didnt hold up.now i have a 400ex so far all the money ive put in it has been regular oil changes and aftermarket upgrades.the 400 is a great all round atv. ill never own anything but a honda.id take a 300ex over a raptor.

400 allll thee waayyyyyy
i got one and have not had to fix a thing on it giver gas and a regular checkup and it will last a lifetime

with the 350 you will have to tell ur friends stop so you can keep up with them and you will be craving more power, speed, and handling and it realy dose suck to have that craving
