www.smcfabrication.com makes some nice tie-rods. I broke my spindle but my tie-rod didn't bend:D 40 bucks plus shipping

I think I would rather bend a tie-rod than a spindle.

all tie rods are tubes of metal there is not smoke and mirrors to the strength. The better ones are usually the solid style with female ends. That accept male Hiem tie-rod ends.

This makes for a larger diameter rod, and the best companies weld a nut on the outside for tightening instead of machining a flat spot in them.

Gibson and Walsh setup are nearly Identical and are both of awesome quality. The Hiems are sealed and you can easily get a season out of them. The have less stiction and more potential travel than a OE balljoint style tie-rod end.

You could use a piece of 3 inch thick Titanium but if it has to taper down to 3/8s it is only as strong as the weakest part.
