Here is a thread to discuss everything related to the opening round of the ATVA MX Nationals at Glen Helen.

I am leaving for California on Tuesday, so ATVriders.com will be providing pre race information along with updates from the track through out this upcoming weekend. I am sure excited about the opening round with level of competitiveness in the Pro Class, the winner could be anyone of easily ten riders that come to my mind.

Last Year, Tim Farr surprised everyone by winning both Motos, so there may be another surprise winner this year in th Pro Class. Also, there is 31 Classes racing this weekend, so there will plenty of other very exciting racing action.

Who will win the opening round in the Women's A Class? Will there be a new face to the Nationals that makes his/her presence known right away? All these questions keep things exciting, and all I wish for is that everyone has fun and hopefully no one heads home injured.

Finally, I personally may be racing in the opening round, which would be my first ever ATVA MX National event. The last time I raced MX was at the ATV Olympics on John Natalie Jr machine, and I had a blast and even finished fairly well against some tough competition with a 3rd overall for the weekend in the Vet Class.

Hey, I would just like to put this out there, can anyone from the NEATV-MX circuit vouche for this? Brown had some good pro finishes last year in the national circuit, but everytime he came around to NEATV on an off week, he got schooled by Creamer, and usually Haavisto too. Since Creamer only raced like 1 or 2 races in Pro in the nationals with mechanical issues before beating everyone in Pro-Ams, have we really seen what he can do against the pros? I think he had the best lap time at a national last year.

Speaking of the Womens class, how do the rules work for them this year? The AMA rules were vague about being able to race in B, C, and age groups. So does that mean that a girl racer with a Production 450 and B/C level could race Womens and Womens Sport too? My girlfriend asked me and I wasn't sure how it was to be interpreted. Thanks ahead of time.

Everyone better rethink their predictions for the new season.Just because you win the championship, doesn't mean you're a sure in for another. At the end of last season , eveyone got to see Natalie wasn't invincible. He got his fair share of bad luck(crashing in both of the last 2 races). Most of everyone are riding new products or different bikes. If you want my prediction , better watch out for team Suzuki. Jones has been training harder than ever and he's not riding a thirty pound heavier dinosaur. The playing field is deffinatley going to be changed.

I agree. I think Jones or Gust will win Glen Helen if they avoid crashing and both get good starts. I think if Jones will have more consistant starts, he will win it all this year.

But the "amateurs" are going to put on a show, too, so it's all going to be fun to watch! Can't make it to Cali, but counting the days for Oak Hill !!!:D

I cant wait to see everyone thats going out their it is going to be a blast. Well this year people have thoughts of who is going to win round one as for my self im not to sure eveybody seems to be getting faster so it's going to be one hell of a weekend. Cant wait to see what happens.

I have my doubts about team Suzuki. They have 2 amazing riders, but I just don't think they have the practice on the new model yet to be competitive, when alot of the guys are racing the same breed of quads they have been for 1 or 2 seasons already. My prediction for team Suzuki is a slow start with some wins coming later in the season.

Im also lookingforward to hearing about some amatuers out there. Since it's the only race on the west coast, Im expecting alot of west coast guys on a budget that cant make it out east to race to show some real competition in the Am classes.

So now there is no classification to the classes, so does that mean that a girl with a production 450 can race both classes? Or is the production class A level riders only? I'm just curious so I can let the ole lady know. lol Thanks. Oh yea, that would mean that the other class is an Open class and it would be amatures. Kinda seems backwards. AMA I guess. lol

YOU ARE SWEET!!!! But unfortunately, we can only make so many trips to Cali in a row.......we aren't able to be at this round....:( but if I were, I'd be racing with Michelle R. in the Women's Production!!!!

One fast chick to keep an eye on - Adrienne Cooper. She's my main competition, and she's VERY fast at GH.....shes' running women's Sport - and I should slap her :macho - she could be running Women's Production and be right up there in the top 3...........but I think she's easing into the series in the Sport class.....

Anyway - can't wait for today - even if I have to watch it all from a computer screen!!! :D

Id say Keep an eye out for Dana Creech, and also Travis Spader(my favorites). JJones is insanely fast, but he has had bad luck for the last 2 seasons. Dont count gust out, Natalie will most likely win(hes almost unstoppable) and be sure to watch for Pat Brown.

There hasnt been any mention of Jason Luburgh? is he running GH? if so watch him, seen him race KY last year hes very very talented just needs a good start.

i will vouche for that creamer is scary fast around new england and if the pros were to come back to southwick i think that it would be a huge surprise for a lot of people how well he would do. Creamer has the potential and the backing to be the next big thing in the pro class so watch out natalie cuz here he comes(of course this will be after he recovers from his wrist injury)

one of the other pics shows Jeremiah running Holeshots on his LTR, so id imagine thats what he'll be running in the race. Especially since they are sponsored by ITP so they might get a little pissed if they run stock tires.

That is not really true. Have you ever noticed Farr? It seems like he is sponsored by ITP but every now and then he runs Maxxis Razr MX's, Kenda's, Turf Tamers, Holeshots. He pretty much runs whatever the track conditions call for. Thats just something I have noticed.

I didn't mean to put the turfs in the "other" tire category. :blah: I wonder why Gust is running stock and Jones is running ITP. You would think team members would run similar setups, other than suspension settings.

Good guess Cory!! It was amazing that Pat Brown and #75 is that Haavisto ? I believe went 1 and 2 in the first Pro Moto

Jason Lubergh won the second moto

Moto #1 was just frickin amazing lots of lead changes and lots of spills and chills. There was a 3 quad pile up at the start coming out of turn #1. It left Lysinger dead last.

Also in Moto #1 sorry I dont know the exact order but for sure Pat Brown, Dana Creech and #75 sorry about the #75 I think its Haavisto. It was so crazy and exciting I should have taken notes.

If they don't win tomorow they will cry and petition whoever does win. I really do get a feeling that they are to good for us or whatever. Well everyone wants the sport to get bigger the days of small teams and hanging out with the pros at races are numbered. We will have to watch it on TV like Nascar.

Well for now we still have all the others like Creech, Natalie, Pat Brown, Byrd, Farr, etc. etc.

My prediction NO WAY suzuki podiums tomorrow. The Pro race is at 12 noon cali time. So we'll know soon enough. Creech, Brown, Haavisto, and White are running really strong.

At practice Creech kept cutting the course and running a couple lines over and over. It paid off for him too because that same area was where he was making al his passes.

Its very hard to predict the race though because the top 10 do not qualify. So I didnt get to see them in competition today. However Natalie was very very strong last week and Pat Brown I really feel would have won last week had he not broken his axle.

and to Team Suzuki...if they are really that ignorant to push aside there fans, they'll have none. the fans are 99% of what gets them there. that'll ruin there rep fast enough. i went training with Natalie over the summer. i called him up, with respect, but we talked like normal people and acted down to earth, extremely nice, and did 110% for me. my bearing carrier broke so we went to his garage and got a new one on there and i was back out on the track with him in an hour. he spent an hour working on my quad and didn't charge me anything. he's so so awesome. he definilty deserves the "People Champion" award. i respect the talent that Team Suzuki has but it's absolutely disgusting and disrespectful for them to act like that. not to go against anyone's word, but i really hope that they don't do that 100% of the time.

Two things:
1. Where's the coverage of the Pro qualifier?
2. When popularity gets ahold of a sport most of it's elite become out of reach to the common person. If our sport keeps growing I would expect it to start happening more and more, such is life.

To the people complaining about Suzuki.....they are going to be busy right now. Introducing the new quad to the media and all that. Since the LTR450 hasn't been out that long I'm sure they are still trying to fine tune it for the ultimate performance on Sunday. Don't be so selfish to say that they won't give you the time of day, they've got things going on at the moment. Have some patience, they're still having an autograph session. They are out there to win a GNC race, not a GNC fan.

Suzuki isn't trying to act like rock stars. I can't believe how people are bashing them for trying to elevate this sport to the next level. I know that it is sad that they didn't take the time to spend a few minutes with your son, but the riders are part of a team, and I'm sure the team manager has set the guidelines. If they take the time to sit and chat with one person's child what if a line forms and then they have to tell some of the fans no. That is why they have an autograph session. I wish we could have it the old way too, because I have talk to Doug and Jeremiah before at a national and it was great, but I will accept this if that is what it takes to get our sport the spotlight it deserves. Doug and Gust are two of the nicest and sincere racers I have ever met and I know that they haven't suddenly turned into "rock stars". Try going to a AMA national or supercross event and talk to RC, Stewart or any of the other racers at a time other than the autograph session. Now with that said, I can't wait to hear what happens Sunday! Wish I could be there.

I wish we could have it the old way too, because I have talk to Doug and Jeremiah before at a national and it was great, but I will accept this if thai is what it yakes to get our sport the spotlight it deserves. I couldn't have said it better. Our sport is going places which brings great oppurtunities for the the pro riders and future pros. I don't care if we can't talk to them like we know them. At least they are finally getting PAID......caching..lol

That was basically what I was hinting at and I agree they probably aren't "TRYING" to act like "ROCK STARS" but that doesn't mean they aren't acting like them either. That is the natural progression of popularity, you see it every where from high schools to the business world to motocross to nascar. I guarantee that the more forward progress that the sport takes and the more years that pass will bring more and more of it. It's not saying anything negative about the people involved now. The pro racers who are going to be jerks about being popular are the young guys who turn pro 5 to 10 years from now who think that factory sponsorship and 6 figure salaries is the way it's always been. All I can say is fasten your seat belts guys because we aren't going to be able to hold our favorite little sport in our back pockets for much longer. Here is a perfect analogy of what is happening.... You have a favorite local rock band, you saw them playing in a p.o.s. bar and there were 5 people in the room (they were awesome). You fell in love with there music, you spread the word, you see them every chance you get, in between sets you talk with them, there the greatest guys in the world.........2 years later they get discovered they're a hit, you scrape together $100 to see them at the arena, later you try to go back stage to say Hi and your stoppped by the H.R. man and he doesn't care who you are......anyway you can see where I'm going with this.

Its funny how you guys are all so much more worried about your favorite pro being protested, if they're legal then whats the problem? Suzuki isnt crying theyre just there to keep everyone on their toes and make sure there is nothing illegal going on. You guys would be amazed at 1/2 the illegal stuff that goes on at the GNC series that no one knows and talks about.

Ok......I think I have a new rant....why is it that people can run a class locally forever...then enter another race organization and drop down one or two classes? Pro's dropping down....A riders dropping down.....I mean.........I don't know. Maybe it bothers me because if I go up a class....I race that class no matter what. Maybe I should change my way of thinking.......because it seems that no one else sticks with any particular class. Seems to be changeable depending on who they are racing that day.........

sorry :).....carry on....back to the Suzuki thing......

Which, by the way - accurate or not - I, too, tend to get the "Prima Donna" vibe from Suzuki ......... but I don't deal with them at all....so....it's just perception.

I completely agree! This makes me angry! Like for instance, I plan on racing production "C" at unadilla, I have to save up for months for this race! And take off from work! But now with all these SANDBAGGERS in the "C" class I might not be able to qualify! Now I just wasted all this time and money cause some people get the satisfaction of winning the "C" class when he/she suppose to be running the "B" or "A" class! Oh and I know who some of you are!!!!!DON"T SANDBAGG!!!!!!!!!!!

Team Suzuki bashers... QUIT YOUR WHINING!! Man they just drop these new quads off the ship from Japan 2 weeks ago, aftermarket is working double time to get race parts available, and Team Suzuki is focused on dialing in a brand new machine from the tires up for the first national of the year. Maybe if Jones and Gust wiped your ***** for you you would feel like they care.

Man there are sandbaggers in every class, most of the guys that run c, b, a, and win(top three) are usually the same speed thats what ive seen. Sandbaggers will always exist.

To the suzuki bashers, stop *****ing, they have sunk more time and money into this sport then ANY OTHER manufacturer. Even when they didnt have a 450 quad they still put 120% into the sport. thats dedication to take the sport to the next level... Now they have a 450 and they have to get this thing dialed in. Im pullin for spader and creech(my 2 favorite riders) but i bet there will be a mixture on the podium today red, blue, and yellow.

you can say that, but Natalie and Farr are doing awesome, trying to take to sport to the next level, yet they still have time to meet the fans? In almost any sport, the fans are one of the most important things. the fans are the ones that buy the suzuki, honda, or yamaha, and if suzuki pushes the fans away, they're just pushing away the business. they're screwing themselves.

For all of you so called race fans who think Team Suzuki is stuck-up or ignoring you,be glad that a factory team has anything to do with our sport.Everyone is used to the old days when fans could walk right up under anyone's tent and talk or get an autograph.Things will change for everyone when more full factory teams are formed. If you go to a pro-dirt bike event, the only time you see any of the riders up close is only during the autograph session. This is the first race of the season, and everyone has alot of pressure on them.Stop crying because you might have to stand in line for an autograph.

I didnt want to start some ***** fest just making my observations of the day. So here is another that I thought was really great and indicative of the sport.

While standing over at Natalie's tent after practice an A class rider came over and asked "Hey, where can I get numbers if I want to run the Pro Am qualifier?"

A couple poeple chimed in with who had them at the track.
Natalie jumped in and said "if those people cant help you come back and we'll hook you up"

There, something nice to discuss.

The wind has arrived at Glen Helen today. I dont know how hard its blowing but all the flags are straight out and all the flag poles are bending in the wind.

i talked to Natalie last year. the plan was to run the Kick version for his practice bikes and the ER for the race bike. i'm not sure if that's what he's doing now but that's what he told me last year. in the practice pictures you can see he has a kickstarter but later when the pics are up, check it out. you'll probably see the battery.

First off I ride red but let me tell you last year at a National event Suzuki and the riders were more than friendly when crowds weren't all over I went on the trailer got me a banner and had gust and jones sign it. Yes the other riders were very friendly also! But what I stress to you all this is the first race of the year and has to be the most stressing with just getting the new bikes and how much they are in the public eye. REMEMBER being a little distant could be the racers and the team focusing THIS IS THEIR JOB! Keep up the good work for the sport Suzuki and all the other sponsors and keep raising the bar!
