hi i am new to the atv world i was always a 2stroke bike guy , I bought a 2003 400 and when i start it at first i have to play with the choke alot and it pops and carrys on until it gets warmed up. Once it is warm it runs like a champ, my question is do think it has a jet kit and that is what is making it do this and is it normal if not what do you think . I apologize for asking a question that may have been posted already but i am just wondering . I am loving the atv deal it rips. thx

When you rev it up it pops? You dont even need the choke to start it, just try to start then stab the throttle 3 times

sounds like a pretty normal cold natured 400ex, I wouldn't worry about it. Every 4 stroke ( 5 quads) I have owned made by honda has done that.

I agree with Procircuit406ex. I find that mine warms up quicker and runs better if I cut the choke off as soon as possible when I get it cranked. It seems that if I leave the choke on, it want to cut off and is harder to restart.

I changed my pilot jet to a bigger size. I live in Buffalo, new york so it gets pretty cold here. I never have a problem starting now. It fires right up even when it 2 degrees out! Just my opinion guys thanks

I found that if you leave the choke off or half on and pump the throttle 3 times then hit the start button she always fires right up no problem.
