OK guys, im hopefully gonna be getting a 450R soon! I want to get a black and kickstart one. What is the best break in procedure? and what kinda oil and oil change intervals do u reccomend? no synthetic for break in right? how long does it take to break it in and once it is whats the best way to warm it up? thanks!!!

Im a street bike guy just getting into the atv seen. Here's my 2cents. NEVER use synthetic for break in. On a bike with 0 time and you want to take care of it I would. Get it home let it warm up to operating temp then let it cool down. Once its cold start it up to operating temp and go for a cruz. just ride it normal ( I mean just put around go throu the gears DONT HIT REV LIMETRER). Dont hold it at the same rpm for a while. Just have a few hours sleeping on the atv. Go home and change the oil and filter. Than go ride it normal but dont over rev it. I would go about 5-10 hours and change it again. I would do the same for the trans side.

I believe oil changes can save a lot of future problems.

Im not sure how long before you should change over to full synthetic. I would also like to know. In the street bikes I do it after 300 miles with a top gear run just before and after the oil change.

thats the procedure i was thinking of, but does anyone else use it? people say take it easy and he says get on it!?!?! WHICH ONE!!!

i did both...i didnt go "easy" on it but I didnt over rev it either and ride it like I was "racing" it untill after about 3 tanks of gas. I changed my oil and oil filter after the first tank of gas. Then again after the next two tanks. Then after the next three. I now change it every 5 tanks of gas

New bike I let it warm up completely till the fan comes on if it has one, let it cool down a bit, check for leaks. Start it back up, run it thru the gears at low to mid rpm, to make sure the tranny is good, then ride the crap outta it. IMO he is right, with todays technolgy, especially in todays materials honing procedures and tolerances. Same thing when I replace a piston.
