Logan is 7 years old, He was 6 in that pic. He has no fear yet! I just need to get him to brake a little later. He loves to jump. We are looking into those GNCC races. Heck I might even suit up! What kind of money should I expect to pay?

You have your AMA card allready. So it's $25 ro race. Addmission is $12 per person for the whole weekend! That includes all races. The youth mini's,am adult quad,pm adult quad, and youth bike all race Sat. Then am adult bike,pm adult bike Sun. If that's not enough racing . The Pro's are very friendly and love to sign autographs for the kids. My son has talked and gotton just about every pro autograph there is. This means alot to him he loves that part of the weekend. You should come out and play with us. Your son rides a 70 right? He would be in Michael's class. The folks are great there. We're all 1 big family. We all look out for each other's kids. Hope you can join us! Mike.

We are proud owners of a new DRX 50.

Can anyone tell me what size (mm) the steering stem is?

Can anyone suggest a tire size to go with? Mainly for XC, but will be doing some MX.

For mx we ran 16" snow hogs on the rear and 18" snow hogs on the front (see the very first picture in this thread for our 16"/18" set up) but for xc we are running 18" snow hogs on the rear and 19" stock polaris/eton wheels on the fronts. Here is our xc set up...

Our son's DRX 50

We mainly run hare scrambles and do motocross as a fun deal. C&D Racing in Omaha, NE has been awesome in helping prep our son's four-wheeler. They are fast out of the box, but after C&D waves their magic wand, it is bad fast. Still no comparison to a Cobra - but anything else out there I believe it is as fast if not faster. It didn't like the water & mud at first but after getting the snorkle put on, had no problems since. Would highly recommend this quad to anyone. Contact Colby or Dusty @ C&D Racing for DRX sales & service.

Hey Northerner, The DRR a great machine for MX. My son races a 2002 DRR. The newer DRX models are winning alot of races in the stock form. The engines are basically the same as the rest of the Taiwan type out there (Kasea, Artic Cat, Polaris) there are many upgradable parts for these. Most of the chasis are the same also. There are plenty of other parts availible to really make them fast and safe. Plan on spending alot to make it real fast. One thing about these quads is you can add "go fast parts" as your kids riding ability gets better. Or you can buy a super fast - almost race ready - Cobra quad - But plan on spending $8000.00 to start!!! If I was getting into it right now, I would look for a used race ready quad - you will save alot that way because we know we will never get the money out of them as we put in em'. I have one I'll sell ya if your interested. If your wanting to start with a fresh new quad, the 2007 DRX is going to be the new standard. Check them out at www.koolkidzatv.com - Just remember - you will need to upgrade it as your kid gets faster. (Engine, Suspension, Chasis(gusetts), rims n tires, ect.) Have fun!!!

what have you got for sale? the 07 season will be his second, time to get a real race mini, the kid loves to jump so i need to get him a mini that can do it and keep him from bouncing off the bike, he will only be 7 for the new season and he is only 50lbs now so am guessing he will be maybe 60lbs at the most by the start of the season

Andyman17dad

you definatly want to look into the rules and class regulations for where you plan to race, before you buy anything.
Our son Andy Races (NEATV - New England ATV-MX) he runs a DRX 50 in the 0-50limited class and also a Kasea in the 51-70lim. production class.
The 50 limited class is basically stock- no aftermarket pipes, carbs, suspension. You CAN change wheels/tires and do internal mods (minimal work is required on these)

Our 70 class allows any "bolt-on's" as long as it is 70cc or under.

in a stock class, the DRX is the best way to go (besides the Cobra which is basically in a class by itself and isn't something that you want for a first year racer- Andy recently got a chance to race a Cobra 50 at a local SX track and it will EASILY smoke his 70! And that was literally right off the showroom floor!)

There is also the new Extreme Typhoon if your kid is willing to shift!
I'm not sure if you can list vendor names on here, so if you want some recommendations, you can e-mail me at abacummings@hotmail.com

Good luck to you!
-Bob

I can not remember for sure, but I think it takes either a 19 or 21mm socket.
As for the tires, we are running the stock size on the rear.
Running 18" on the front seems to give more stability for turns.
I also consider 2.5" wheel spacers in front to start giving it a wider stance.:D

just got our 1st shipment of the 90's

here's my boy on his black.
we chose air-cooled over the H20 just for the mere fact of all the upgrades advailable..
Also we went with the DRX2 and not the limited. All 90's are shipping with 44" up front now... This quad is pretty darn quick all ready, the pipe has also been upgraded looks just the same as a KOSO pipe.. It came with a 24mm flatside.

Only thing I need to add is nerfs and some pretty wheels!

Did I mention he got 1st on this thing, coming from running 4th last series on his lil kazuma.. He also decided to run the open class which is ran on the "big track" the suspension proved worthy. He has told me he just wants to run open now and leave the "minitrack" behind!

thanks for the info. guy's! She won't be getting into racing, mostly trail riding and play riding! Would you guy's recommend these over the other brands? I have pondered over the LT 80's but man they are pricey and that's the one thing I noticed about the DRR's was they were a little cheaper yet the still sell aftermarket parts for them! thanks again!

I would TOTALLY recommend a DRR over any other for trail riding. It is nice and wide (stable), plenty of power (kid won't outgrow it in a season) and it is priced right there with all the other mini-quads.(best bang for the buck)

If you’re going to trail ride get something with an air box. The best part of trail riding is the puddles and the mud holes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That’s why Kyle likes his KFX80 (lt80) for the trails that suckers a little tank in the woods. :macho Open-air filter equals no mud holes. The DRR is the best mini deal going right now but for trail riding I would get a Hetrick air box for it. Just like the tree runners use;)

bulldogfallon
05-23-2007, 11:10 PM
The newer DRRs with the OKO carbs have not had the extended air tube that allows the air filter to be mounted up and out of the way like it does on the 2006 Mikuni equipped quads...

Soon a similar set up will be standard once again...but the tube will be thicker for more air flow and maybe a different material.

This will make it a much more effective trail machine stock out of the box

mxdad
05-24-2007, 05:41 AM
We are on our 3rd DRR/DRX and love them but in my honest opinion a Honda TRX90 would be your best choice for trail riding. I actually liked the older DRR's (04 or older) better for trail riding since the air box was up under the seat.

This is our season opener and we had 6 inches of mud off the gate and in most corners. Landon plowed through for a 1st place Win. Took a hour and a half to take off the first 3 inches of mud then had to add soap to take off the resido and now its back to orange again

Here is my daughter... The story is that I bought this from Les at Extreme Mini Quads in Tacoma, WA. This was the first DRR DRX2 70 (Water Cooled) that any customer had in the USA. Les and his crew got up at 6am to unload the container and find this black one for me, way in the back (of course!). He shipped it out the same day, and it arrived here in Sacramento the night before we were leaving for Sand Mt., Nevada for our Christmas desert trip. Before that my 4 year old had been on her Suzuki ALT50 (3 wheeler) learning her maneuvers, working her way up to this thing. My wife and I stayed up late putting it together, and making sure it ran good before the trip. We presented it to her on that trip, for her Christmas present. She rocks on it, and hasn't looked back since! I just wish there were mini quad races in our area for her to get started in the dirt!

Ya'all got the sickness!! Lovin' it!
p.s. - You might want to be careful with the front number plate blocking the radiator.

thedeatons
05-31-2007, 10:16 PM
Yeah, it has been overheating ritually, and until this evening reading another post about that, I actually never put 2 and 2 together.... Any ideas? I want to run it there, but obviously we need airflow and the temp light is coming on, even with Engine Ice (thinking about switching to Liquid Performance like Cobra's run stock).....

Logan #34's Dad
05-31-2007, 10:48 PM
There is a product called Redline that will keep it cooler than Engine Ice, However, REMEMBER to drain it if you live in cold climates cause it has NO antifreeze properties. I wanted to run my son's number plate there as well but I was not going to risk an engine failure SO I went to Wal-Mart and puchased the can spray paint for plastics and masked a number plate off under the headlight and painted the backround right on the plastic. (I NOTICED THE FLOWERS UNDER THE LIGHT, MASK AROUND THAT STICKER THEN PEAL IT OFF AND PAINT IT.) Then added the stick-on numbers (4"). Looks sweet too! Kind of like Gust's Suzuki. I also did the rear fenders - but you already have those.

thedeatons
05-31-2007, 10:51 PM
Yeah, I use Red Line products in nearly everything I own... I used Engine Ice because of the anitfreeze proerties. We were at Sand Mt. in December and January, well below zero degrees during peak riding times, including snow with no problems.

Perhaps I could try some stainless mesh painted white with the numbers painted in a special font onto the mesh..... Hhhmmm.....

Maybe I just need some super huge shrouds!!!

Logan #34's Dad
05-31-2007, 10:57 PM
I was a little concerned about the radiator itself. Both inlet and outlet on the same side. Shouldn't one be opposite so the water flows through the radiator before it exits?

thedeatons
05-31-2007, 10:58 PM
Yeah.... sorry, I actually ignored it because I wasn't really into it. I don't mean to offend your creativity, I just like the plates on the front. The DRX2 actually came with a super small front plate sticker thingee, but I yanked it in favor of the graphics kit.

Logan #34's Dad
05-31-2007, 11:01 PM
Hey no offense taken, I was editing that post and adding the front sticker thing as you responded.

thedeatons
05-31-2007, 11:01 PM
Yeah, not sure about that one, are there no cross tubes? I have never looked actually.....

Logan #34's Dad
05-31-2007, 11:04 PM
U would think there are cross tubes, If not the engineers need fired! Heres another idea, Put white numbers above the headlight. As long as the scorekeepers can see them then your good.

Found this today and made me think of you...

Pittsburgh, PA (AP) - A seven-year-old boy was at the center of a Pittsburgh courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible.

The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him.

After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Pittsburgh Steelers, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.

I usually take the "guts" out of the light and cover it neatly with electrical tape. Take it out of the hood piece so you can get the ends of the tape tucked in. I, personally don't like having a big open hole right there where you see all the wires and "mess".
Or you can go with the fiberglass hood, I got mine from a place in NewJersey. (I'm pm the info)
I have also seen several people fabricate some different types of screening or sheet metal inside the hole.

We was going to use a jigsaw, but wasnt sure what size of blade to use, so we just used the good ole Dremel.
We burned up the dremel this time around, its cut roughly 12 sets of plastic so I guess it was time to buy anyother one :p lol
When we get home , Im going to even up some spots that arent exactly right and meaure things better. I also use a buffing wheel to clean up the edges.
