At any time I have my machine apart for maintainance I will be able to have it back together within 2 hours, that is all the warning I need if anybody wants to come ride with me and see if they can keep up.

Sounds great keith, spent about an hour on the yard jump yesterday, then I was hittin one of the topsoil piles for about 45 mins and let me tell you what, after ridin for 7 hours at silver monday, then the practice I did yesterday, all the fat I put on over the winter is comin off.
The great thing is I can get about 10 feet further off the yard jump than ever before, and the front heavy landings are no concern anymore. Its kinda scary runnin up to that little pop-up in second gear but when she hits and comes up its like I am in total control.
I will be ridin this afternoon as soon as I readjust my valves, change the oil,nut and bolt it and spend a couple hours wackin the weeds I have been neglecting.

Joe kick ***. Ryan and I will have a couple of fellas with us next time we are out. We are hoping to get something going after Labor day weekend. I will give you a buzz to let you know if and when. Your machine looks great, got a lotta hours I can imagine wrenching on it.
Its gotta feel good to back riding. I know we are looking forward to getting back out there. Spike, the third guy that was with us when we were out last got himself a 04 YFZ450. So he is looking to "test" it.
Sounds like last weekend was a hoot. Wish we could have made it but last weekend but I was out of town with the family. Did you ever get the car started on fire??

I wanted to burn a car so bad I could taste it,but like always , My project ran into a few delays.
There was the disputes between the design artist and the engineer, and the mechanic had to get his ego boost so I let him have his way a couple times. Have you ever had to deal with an electrician that has bad eyes? Thats not half as bad as the welder, he just got new glasses and thinks his welds are great, they may hold up well but they look like crap in places.

Bring,em on smith, now that my front end is proper I should be able to realy eat up the back hill, it was real sketchy staurday.
When she almost stalled crossfacin that thing,I was ready to bail but she grunted across. The front end was wantin to turn uphill all the time, thats why I rolled her down the sandhill.
But shes better now.

Hey Joe what did you do with your motor last time we talked you have not made up your mind yet
pit/wood
09-01-2006, 08:32 AM
Hey guy, long time no see. I realy have not done all that much to the internals of the motor, but I do make sure that everything is up to snuff, and I have no problem changing the original design to one that suits me, oil pressures and volumes, deburring, polishing internal parts, port design, frame and the electrical system all have had attention from me.
But most importantly, when I had the motor in my arms just before I set her in the frame,I gave it a big kiss, Thats all I,m sayin.
I should be runnin again sat.afternoon. Come on out and see what she`ll do.

Joe he man what is up? Hey I wanted to touch base with you and see if next week a couple of us can come over and ride? We might have 4 of us coming but I will let you know what day. Otherwise we were thinking of possibly stopping by Sunday afternoon. Let me know if this works for you. Give me a call if you still have my cell number.

Heck yea Keith, this weekend is great. the next might not be.
I didnt case a new hit properly and ended up bailin and popin my collar bone out of joint last thursday. Nate thought I was crazy when I told him to grab my arm and hold on. After flopin around on the ground with him holdin on for dear life it went back in place.
I made it up to silver and rode one armed on sunday. yesterday i moved the throttle back to the bars and went for a ride. no jumpin or wheelies for a bit but I am ridin again.

Joe glad to hear that you are up and ridin. I can imagine that hurt like nobodys biz.
I will let you know when we are planning and give you a heads up. Spike is piping his machine and hasn't reallly rode it yet so he is getting anxious to do some ridin.
We haven't made it to silver lately but we are planning a trip in the next few weeks. Gonna extend a weekend and stay in Baldwin at a buddies cabin and ride Friday, Sat and then head to Silver on Sunday. Should be a good weekend..
Good to hear from ya,
Keith

Joe,
I have spent the last hour reading the 18 pages of your thread. I am always looking for new places to ride. Your pit looks awesome. I am really looking for private land to bring my family. We were going to Dusty D's in Standish but he has had to close due to township ordinances. He was forced to build a dirt berm around his property due to noise, which closed him down.
The DNR has some outrages youth sizing laws and we would be asking for a ticket on public lands. The boys are legal since their quads are 50cc's and they are over 6 years old, but I feel the DNR can always write tickets any time they want, they just have to dig deeper. I would like to avoid the whole situation with the law and public lands.
http://webpages.charter.net/tcthompson60/april13006%20001%2045%25.jpg
The quads are modified Lem mini's. Stock they put out around 2.5 hp. The smaller Lem now puts out around 7hp. and the larger Lem has a S6 water-cooled dirtbike motor which is supposed to put out 13hp. My boys aren't that aggressive but the little quads will pull them around anywhere they want.
My wife and I ride Raptors and the boys ride in between us. We usually ride off, way out of the way of others. The boys will find a pile of dirt somewhere and will be happy to ride over it again and again. Your property looks like there would be plenty of room for us to roam around. I am interested in coming out. My wife says we could bring them in a few weeks, I thinking Sunday Oct. 8th. Do you think we could come over?
Thanks, Tom

Hey daddyrat, yea it is gettin long, thanks for readin it. Alot of riders ask questions that are answered in the thread.
I like to see young riders that are learnin to ride.
Just pm me and let me know what days are good for your bunch. I may be gone the 6th & 7th but the 8th may work.

Off topic, but this is where most michigan riders will see it.
There is an enduro race sept 30 at bobsfamilyraceway in clarksville. It is a horseshoe shaped flattrack combined with their drag strip (~1/2 mile total). It will be a 60 lap race with a 2 man team with one quad. We are trying to get a good turnout for this event.
What do you say Joe? Lets see what that honda has.:D
pit/wood
09-25-2006, 02:39 PM
That Honda has an owner who popped his ac tendon a week ago,but I have been ridin a bit. Jumps and wheelies are fine as long as I dont have to land, thats when it hurts.
Besides I have other obligations on that weekend,Witti, but thanks for the invite. most of my ridin is shot for the year. I saw the doc today and he says dont bail and land on my shoulder for it for at least 5 weeks. Its hell gettin old.
As for the honda itself all it needs is a good rider, shes tight for now.

No sounding about it! Joe’s place is great! I went for the first time last Sunday and had a blast. Put on your skid plates!
Joe, next season I am going to work on getting the nerve to jump the little river between the ponds. I will have Connie take picks from a boat or make her swim. lol.. I told the gal pals from work yesterday about my plans and they said they are going to advance purchase my get well card and write I told you so in it. No faith in me? I just ordered a full set of skids. I’m going to ride trails in PA in two weekends. Wheels and tires next. I’ll be ready by spring. Oh yeah! Slip on pipe and jetting too! I will let you know if I am successful stopping the little oil leak you helped me diagnose.
Take care and keep in touch.

It might be because i started riding on the ds 650 or because
i have a couple of kids. But jumping on purpose just doesnt
feel right to me.If it happens while on a dune run no biggie.
Either that or my 37yr old arse needs to grow some balls.:)
I hope your riding this weekend i need to ride

Addict? it doesn't matter what kind of tank you ride you will have fun. Joe's trail in the woods has little jumps to slow down the quads and you will have enough room to bypass them. The bambis are so used to him riding in the woods that they stop to check you out. Don't want to scare you off from enjoying yourself. It's just some of us live everyday as if it was our last.. after you watch Joe ride you just might want to sprout a little...

Hey addict, come on out,I ride everyday for at least an hour. Practice over injury,is my theory. I am on the mend and should be in good shape for the weekend.
I had to ride with Jackie and Connie, Being 46 myself, I am not too old to show off for the girls when I get the chance. I paid for it though. A couple hours on a heatin pad for my back, pain pills for my shoulder and wrist and t.v. to numb my mind.
Jackie, girlfriend, You come back in the spring and bring your camera, girlfriends, boyfriend, kids, tent, dogs and whatever else you need for a weekend. It wont take but an hour or so and you will be flyin over the creek, and I wont even have to put on my helmet. Stacie and Cassie would be more than glad to coach you on how they jump it. They were clearin it on thier old 250ex,s. Thats another reason I encouraged them to step up to the 400,s:devil:
Jackie, you may want to take an old hole punch of the right dia. ,and stake that plug in there with it.
Drop me a p.m. addict,let me know

Now if I can only refi the estate here maybe I can buy her baby's 250, although I do love clutchin it with a bit more power!

Maybe an LT250R with a slightly bent frame? Little more power than the 250ex though... ;)
Joe, maybe I'll meet you next year.
So much for trying to slow Jackie down... Oh well, she only broke 5 bones this year... :p

She's a ripper Raptorider!
Too bad I wasn't in the immediate vacinity to see her *** over handlebars! but I bet it was a good one.
I was stuck out in the back 40 sandflats on that 250 when the shifter fell off the post and I was determined to get it running again. Another reason for the clutch, no stuck!
The after party of that spill will be a lifelong memory eh Jacks!

Raptorider; how much you want for that bent box?
Maybe I could learn pro without rippin up a new one.
Bet my jumps would look pretty strange siddlin sideways.

Well, I have over 13k including purchase price of $2,700 into it. The only thing NOT aftermarket is the frame... Only the subframe is bent, but enough to warrant a new frame. I probably won't sell it anytime soon, never get the money back out of it! I'm going to take it out this weekend to see if I like it better than my LT-R450...
Anyway, didn't mean to hi-jack your thread, Pit/Wood. Jackie had nothing but good things to say about riding your place. I hope to try it out next spring. ;)

pit/wood, is it cool if me and a couple guys show up Sunday, the 22nd to go riding? It'll be a couple 400ex's, a 450 and a utility (if everyone goes). We live in Lowell, so we'd love to have a local riding place!
Can you give directions from M-21?

Bring ,em on dude. lots of room here.
As a matter of fact I did alot of dirtbike ridin in and around Lowell, back in the day.
Yep,Yep,Yep, I remember gettin chased down Bowes road, got a ticket for that. Ridin on high school property, suspended. Flyin down Foreman road on my 90 got me into court for the first time.
But we all had a childhood.....

Yeh... Bowes and Gee street are notorious for having the po-po there.. just because the speed limit's only 25. Foreman is actually one road over from mine.. That's awesome that you're familiar with the area!:D
So.. Any way I can get some directions from ya? :blah:

Also, for anyone showing up Sunday, what time are you guys gonna arrive? I was hoping for 11ish so we had plenty of time.. But I didn't want to wake Joe up or interrupt his Church time.
Thanks guys, Travis

There are not many roads in between Five Mile and I-96 that I have not been on more than a few times....
Jumpin the tracks on foreman, The curves in fallasburg park, drag-racin over the bridge at fallasburg. climbin up on the train trestle bridge over the grand river, walkin across the 10 inch beams above the tracks....... there aint much me and my crew didnt do around that town. I grew my nuts in the 70,s.

Alright guys, Joe just PM'ed me and told me the directions... but I'm still a little lost. Does anyone have his actual street address? What time is it ok to come out?
Joe, is it alright if my friend drives his truck back to where we ride? When I called him and told him I wanted him to go riding at your place, he said that just had a surgery and won't be riding this weekend, but still wants to come out... He won't tear it up (ok, maybe a little if you say it's OK.. his nickname is Psycho Mike for a reason:p ).
Also, Joe: My bike has a full LRD exhaust.. It's LOUD. Is that ok? If not.. just lemme know before I head out.

Sounds great RezoD. The good thing about havin a pit to ride in is there is always good ground to ride on. The water just dissappears as it falls. you can ride in a drizzle all day and stay dry.
Stayin warm is the key, so I figuire on a bonfire between the tow rigs will do. circle,em up and torch it off

I live in Columbia City INdiana. About 3hours away. Me and some friends would love to rid out there. What rules and stuff is there? Is this a park yet or just private riding ground? Sounds Awesome. Almost sounds too good to be true lol.
pit/wood
10-25-2006, 06:51 AM
Rules? aaahhhh
you must be 18 or have both parents permission.
No riding on county roads.
helmet is a must.
Always stop before you cross the road and dont spin your tires on the road.
Stay out of the active pit across the road.
Hotties must wear a bikini and hit the yard jumps (chest protector is suggested,as well as boots )
Ya gotta be as safe as possible, within reason.
I was thinkin of goin public, but I am going to just keep it for myself and friends.
I tell ya what,if after lookin at the pics in this thread and you still dont know what is here, dont feel bad. most everyone that has seen the thread pics then stood on the edge of the pit has said pretty much the same thing. most think it is alot bigger in person, which is usualy the case with pics.
Bring your trailer or tent, lots of neat places to put them.
pm me Josh, if you want to talk I can call you.

But Jackie, you said you wouldnt tell. But yea its true. This is all a ploy to lure in some unsuspecting woman who has an overwhelming desire to ride quads every day of the week.
So now that everybody knows, how about it, all you ladys just pm me with your stats and I may get back to you.
Do not forget to include a detailed description of your machine and toy hauler. This is your last chance before I go on ebay and the bidding starts.

Glad I could help you get your fix,atvaddict01. I had fun ridin with ya. Let me know when you start lookin for a different machine, I know of a couple for sale. Its best you get off that big 650 and on to something you can throw around, kinda dangerous realy, bein able to out ride my suspension caused me alot of injuries. You cant even hardly influence the pitch of that big trail-hog. You could just gain about 100 pounds, but I think your wife would rather you got a different quad.

To attain such a level of attractivness as that, you have to work at it. I had been cuttin firewood for most of the day( I heat 3 buildings with 1 furnace, had to get a splitter this year, couldnt split it all by hand this winter due to a couple recent injuries) That was about 45 pounds ago also.
Jackie, did I tell ya about the time a certain attractive blond decided that it was to hot layin in the sun next to the swimmin hole? She jumped on her 400ex and made a couple laps in the shady woods to cool off. I told her that instead of ridin next to the road in her bikini and causin a traffic hazard she could have just jumped in the pond.

Tuesday is good, watchin you take on the tallest with that 250r was impressive. I just wish I could have lead the way. This spring will be slightly different though.
Nate and I found a nice little step-up the other day. About 8' to the lip,20 foot or so of smooth transition. kicked me up about 25 and out about 35. Landing was rough and unlevel but we made the most of it. pics of it will be up soon.
I am up to ride every day, weather permiting, so if anyone wants to get in thier last ride for the season let me know. My riding season started about 3 weeks ago so I have alot of catchin up to do.
The scooter chisled-plowed the beanfields this week. We have about a 1/4 mile strip I ran the float over so we can use it as a dragstrip untill its planted in the spring. I found a nice spot for a little circle track, right next to grammas house, between the road and the pit scales. you just have to remember not to roll it comin out of turn 2, that will put you in the road.

I`m thinkin that this time of year you have to ride when you can. There is alot of room here Travis, bring all the riders you can find.
My only concern is safety when there is a large number of riders. If we are all adults and use our heads there should be no problems.
Hey Dave, you and the Wart are gonna like the hill that will be open in the spring, its across the road in the new pit. Nate and I were just casin it yesterday, its got to be 25 foot taller than the one in Trailwarts dreams.

No problem with being responsible, sensible adults Joe. :) I'm sure you know how it gets sometimes though, someone rolls a jump, then the next guy hucks it bigger, and it keeps going... It's kinda like that with us. I'm sure we'll all be on our best behavior, seeing as it's your place, and we need to respect that.

The tranny for my 04 lower end will be here today and in my machine before the end of the day. if that one doesnt get here ,I have an 06 tranny that may get here today, but that means back to the 05 and a weak 2nd gear. either way I will be runnin today if the usps does its job.

Joe, you should have all these riders cut and split a cord of wood each as a membership fee to ride the pits.. then you could take a break and ride more.
I am done riding untill spring. Except putting through the woods at home. Remember my broken ribs Aug. 13th? then 8 weeks later I had that spill?? well I wasn't feeling up to par and the doc xrayed the ribs and the spill rebroke and even made them worse. The ones down my back are now over laping by an inch. They had healed lined up the first time. So I am done playing hard untill spring..

I had a bad case of brainlock this week. Took me 12 hours and 2 design scraps to work out my lazy-mans log-splitter design. It wont get any awards for looks but I wont have to lift any sections to put them on the splitter or pick up another piece of split wood off the ground again. Goodbye to all that bendin over.

Well, I took industrial hydraulics for my Robotics Engineering class about 13 years ago... What is your splitter doing, or not doing? Hmm... Vane pump... centrifugal pump... 2-way directional control valve... Is your actuator not... actuating? it isn't stuck in the extended positon, is it? I hate it when that happens!
btw... I'll shoot you a PM about that donor LT frame for parts Jackie said you have.
pit/wood
11-18-2006, 09:51 PM
Well eerr its kinda like this. I have it mounted on the front of my tractor(Massy- Fergeson) in a way(actualy I built a way for it)that it can move up and down. I am in the process of fouling out the ram on the mounting frame so that the splitter moves up and down about 2' . I built a very heavy table frame around the foot so the split wood falls on the table, which is about at waist height when the splitting is complete. Then I tip it onto a skate-wheel type conveyor and roll it to the wagon. And that is where I need help. I want to use 2 cylinders to move the wood along the conveyor. one attatched between the ram and cylinder. The other attatched to a lever to push the wood along. the flexable hose will allow me to position my conveyor most anywhere. However I believe I need some sort of adjustable accumulator to vary the stroke of the driven cylinder. Then there is all the math that goes with it. I could easily over-build it but that takes time and more money than I have. The learning curve on this project is lookin long.
LTandRaptorider
11-18-2006, 10:30 PM
Yeah... trial and error is ok when you have time and money. Most of us have maybe one or the other, but hardly ever both...
let me sleep on this. I guess I better not visit any porn sites before going to bed, I may wake up with some strange ideas!
You want to use two actuators... At first I was not getting what you are trying to do... But I think I am getting there. I was thinking flow control, but as I visualize what you need, an accumulator is needed for the second cylinder... if you have any pics, send them to LT250R_rider@yahoo.com
pit/wood
11-19-2006, 05:30 AM
I get these headaches(Ideas) like this and they wont go away untill I figuire it out.
The driven cylinder is acted upon by the splitter ram that uses the tractor hyd.sys.
the driven cylinder creates flow to the wood mover cyl. If both cylinders are the same displacement then you will get close to the same amount of motion from the pusher that is transmitted to the driven cylinder. I would like to vary the stroke on the pusher to compensate for differing lengths of split wood. I believe that if I use a 3rd cylinder and have it act upon a spring(for return ) and simply limit the ram movement to vary the total fluid available to the pusher( to adjust travel).
I have 15 inches of ram travel(24 total ,but average movement to split is about 15") to create pressure. I want to use a 2"x36"x 11/4 cyl. for the pusher. the operator can then select a long push or a short push and by using a valve or so it can by diverted to stop movement.
The design makes it self-contained . I can come up with cylinders from old combines, cheap.
I should have a pic up today,maybe.
I dont have a frame, but I know of a damaged one. Thats why I said "possible section repair"
I guess I should disscuss this via e-mail. Kinda off topic.

Hey Joe, just checkin to see how the war on your 400's goin? Hopefully it's just the shift fork, and your bike will be up for this weekend ;) Lemme know what day's ok to swing by.
If I show up with a shovel and rake, can I smooth out some hills? Or is it pretty much just ride what's there?
Travis
pit/wood
11-21-2006, 06:47 AM
Shift forks will be here tomorrow, funny how a bent fork acts like a broken gear tooth.
Dude if you look around there are about 6 shovels,4 or 5 rakes and a pick-axe layin near the last jump they were used on. Most of them are in the pit,but a few are in the woods. One of the things I need to do is cut up a bunch of 6' lenghts of 3" pvc and cap one end and paint Them hunter orange. If we drive the shovel in the ground and put the rake against it we can slip my implement locating tube over them. It will also protect the wooden handles of the 5 dollar k-mart tools.
too many ideas,not enough time.
most of the stuff you can work on,some of them are closed because they need work but a few are just not ready to hit yet and need major work.

11-21-2006, 07:33 PM
Joe dude, I'm not asking to work on you and Nate's jumps, no way. :) There was one jump that one of the Mike's and I found, it's out in the pit a ways, and it's a pretty awesome jump. There's a small clay lip poking out from the gravel, and it pretty much launches you straight up, then you land softly on the back side... It's awesome :D The guys and I hit it enough that we kind of rutted it out where the tires hit (there's a small bump of dirt right on front of the hill, so you jump into the face of the jump basically). If it's ok, I'd like to get rid of that little bump. :)
We'll always try to stay off your jumps with the buckets, except when we don't see them and someone like Charlie does a nose wheelie onto it. :eek2:
Hopefully see you this weekend Joe!

Hey Joe! :D Did my friends stop out? Should have been Mike and Charlie, and maybe the other Mike, and another guy Kent with his kids (maybe). Just wanted to know if they did make it out, or if they just wanted to tease me about me having to work while it's nice outside! :(
So what day is OK for us to swing out this weekend, Saturday or Sunday? Or are you gonna close up shop for the weekend?
How's your bike runnin? :D

Last I heard (last Friday, the 1st) it was up and running, and he wanted to race me :p I haven't heard back from him saying that it wasn't anymore, I just assumed he's been out riding the entire time. Get some sleep Joe!
How's this weekend Joe? I don't care if anyone else shows up... the girlfriend has to work all weekend, so I don't have to stick around the house and I'd LOVE to get out and ride in this fluffy stuff!! I think it'd be a blast to jump off the hills, and touch down into the snow.. Ahh, why is Saturday so far away. :(
Talk with ya soon man, take it easy on your bike. ;)

one bad thing about that no race gas around here anymore, not untill spring time. I do know who sells it but I'n not going to pay nine bucks a gallon. I need to get a hold of trailwart to see if he still wants to go. We are trying to get some more friends to come out but they may ***** out, i'm not sure.

was doin a check over on the quad before i was gonna head out and it wouldnt start. looked at the reed cage and the reeds were split and a chunk was missin. at that point i decided i was goib to redo the topend and found that the piston was split on both sides of the wrist pin, ready to explode in my engine. glad i took it apart and caught it when i did. sending my motor out to N.C. to get ported and new piston. hopefully it will be back up in 2-3 weeks. hope you are feelin better joe. Well guy we only got in about 10 mins of ridin when Travis started droppin parts all over the pit, still cant find his breather bottle.
We got er dailed in now though. Just may have to put a patent on this fix. too funny! He wants his battery to stay with his quad the next time he jumps the creek. I knocked my skid plate off in the same spot last year. Since looks dont matter its gonna be angle iron on the subframe and no airbox.
Ya gotta love the progression.
Are you gonna make any little additions while under repair? Its a good time to pad the bill with upgrades. momma will never know.:D
About 4 grand will get you the 250r that took the 1997 I.C.E , GN championship. the owner tells me it has never been in the dirt and they bought it new. It comes with lots of spare parts too. Only a mile from my house.

That reminds me Joe, I'm gonna bring over some angle iron to replace what I'm using... I think I have some anyways. =/
I'll be out at your place at 10:30 or 11 man... I'll call ya before I head out.

my bike is torn down in the process of installing larger carbs and such. when I get that done and the warm weather continues without rain, than I will come out and go riding. joe did you get the other pit closed yet? are you ready to ride in there yet?

Nah, the new pit isn't closed yet.... Probably won't be closed for a while yet. I think Joe said "When they're done" so when it gets too cold for them to continue to work?
I've got some metal flake in my oil, and a grinding coming from my head... Damned four strokes! I miss my little pinger and it's simplicity :( Anyways.. Need a new head, and I'm gonna do what you suggested Joe, coffe can air box! :) My K&N was soaked yesterday after riding...

There are still some of us riding there, with Joe's wishes of course... Last I knew, it was still ok for people to come out, as long as some of us were there (mainly Mad Mike). If you want to see if you can go out, send me a PM, I'll give you Joe's #, give him a call and ask him if it's OK. Probably won't be a problem, but you never know.
