A friend of mine has a 2005 Suzuki DRZ-SM 400. The engine in the bike is nearly the same as the ones in the quads. The only differences that I know of is that the cylinder is at a 10 degree different angle and obviosly the transmissions are different.

Anyways, I warned my friend about the problem with the magnesium clutch covers and showed him the pics. Naturally he was worried but very relived when he pulled the water pump cover off. It looks like brand new. No corrosion or anything.

I am wondering why this is? Almost everybody that has checked on a quad has found problems but on the bike it is fine.
I cant imagine that they would use a different coolant between the bike and the quad. Even if they did you would think that electrolosis would still be present.

If any one knows please enlighten me.

Thanks

yes it is magnesium. The older ones may not have been but the 05 & 06's have a magnesium cover and his is an 05. The below quote is direct from Suzuki's webpage along with the link

The only thing I would guess is it had a compatible coolant in there.
