I am having trouble deciding about a new race quad. Should i get a NEW cannondale moto 440 and put a new front end, and shocks on it, or should i build a crf450r based race quad? I am leaning towards the moto because it is new and has a warrentee and stuff, and i heard handling is superb, but just let me know what you guyz think. thanks.

i say build the crf based quad. 1st off it will be a fun project and the outcome will be AMAZING! (it will turn a lot more heads then the moto would) and why would you spend $12,000 on the moto when you plan on getting a new front end? i say build you own quad and you can customise it to how you want. either way you go it is going to be over 10g's. HONDA ALL THE WAY!

Ever think of buying the Walsh Cannondale? Or buying a canniable or speed and modofing it? There is no sense in buying a moto and taken the front end off.
Bulding a crf or yzf quad is very expensive. Your going to be looking at around 15000 for the rolling chasis with everything except the motor if you go for a walsh frame and all the other top notch parts. And its gonna take you time to build. If you go this root i'd pick up a stock 400ex or something to ride in the mean time.

I got a price of 14,450 to build a complete houser crf450r quad with axis shocks all around, rear beadlocks, maier plastic, pro peg ners, pro taper bars, duncan bumper, holeshot mx's all around, lonestar axle...etc...that a good deal? How would it compare to a Moto 440?
Walsh Racing moto 440 -------$12,000.

How long will it take them to get it to you. I can have one to you in a little over a year from now. If you want to race get a Cannibal or Speed, change the Front end to what you want the axle, a set of nerfs and kill switch yout done in under 10,000.

PS I own a Cannondale Speed
Sold 2000 400EX

do you think that 14,450 for the whole custom crf450r quad is a good deal, or do you think i will be happier with the moto 440?

funny you should say that. Jeff is the one i have been talking to about building one. He just faxed me a contract, and we are working out paying and shipping and stuff now. How does a CRF450 differ from the YZ426? Which is better?

if you have to ask that question then you should buy a stock cannibal. it is no longer the yz426f, it is the yz450. the yz450 is going to be a lot better than the crf, it has 5 valves and DOCH.

i know the yz450 is out. Has yamaha solved to hot start problem yet? I think i am going to stick with the crf unless i hear nothing but awesome things about the yz450.

the new YZF450 has all the sweet features of the CRF i think, the 426 was on par with the 450, now the 450 is nuthin, the YZF is gonna be alot better.
How much would it cost to buy just the Crf motor?

go with the yz450f engine. The 426 was better than the crf450 use your common sense to figure out how the new yz will compare to the crf.

Yeah, but it is probably going to be a lil bit*h to get a yz450 engine. I would get the 426 and bring it up to 450 specs, the main thing is the auto decompression.

bumping up an old thread but...What about the 4 speed tranny in the new yzf450? How would that do in a quad...after looking at all the engines, the yzf450 sounds the best to me....id like to see someone else try it in a quad before me though...What do you guys think about the 4 speed?
