I always loved the 250R.Now I have a 400ex 2001 with filter, pipe, stadium shock (aftermarket adjustable in compression and rebound).

I like the way my 400ex is and don't want to trade it ... then I was thinking about putting a 250R engine in it.

Does it's hard to fit a 250R engine in a 400ex frame? because the frame a really similar and want to know.

Then I want to know if this is possible without too much welding to put a 250R engine in a 400ex.Maybe a Cr250R Engine will fit??

Does I need to do my own motor mount or I can buy a kit??!?

Maybe the headpipe will be hard to fit?

Thanks

Yes it can be done, for a total kit check this out http://servicehonda.com/service.html As for the CR250 motor they do make a very nice amount of power, however the transmission wouldn't be the best for a quad.

Yeah I know that service honda can make one but too price for me.

Im thinking about that and here the difficulty that I see :

- Align Chain sprocket and fit the swingarm

- Fit the headpipe

- Fit the radiator

- Make the motor mount

That's what Im thinking about

i know you guys might like how your 400ex feels but honestly with the amount of time and money you would put into gettin an R motor into the frame you could just sell your 400, get an R and build it to where it feels comfortable...

my 250r is very comfortable, and i like it, i just want an aftermaket frame, however, i don't want to spend a grand on one, so seeing how i am a pro. welder, y not just use the 400ex frame, and use everything 250r, minus the swing arm and rear shock?

If you ride trails and stuff, putting a 250R motor in a 400ex frame makes a bit of sense because you can use a 5.5 gal tank with the 400ex. However I would think it would be hard because where are you going to mount a radiator?

The other thing is that if you decide to sell it, it'll be worth pennies.

someone done it before?? I want to know the difficult parts to do this hybrid.

I want to know if possible step by step how to put it in the 400ex frame.

thanks

The ims tank is the only one that works besides the stock gas tank. Regardless of what all the people that have never had one of these says the trans is the strongest part of the cr250 motor. I still ride the original prototype with more than 1600 hours on it and still have the original trans and crank in it. I will be racing a new 2006 at the Florida GNCC race next month. A pipe needs to be made as well as a custom airbox intake.

Someone know if a cr250 engine will work without a lot a modification??

The pipe is shorter in the front of the frame then it will be more easier to pass in the frame???

What you think?

Do you have a CR 250 motor already?

Would it vibrate as much as a cr500 motor? I see the advantages of a CR motor - powervalve and choice of many years, but why not just use a 250R motor?

Look at the pics of the service honda one and see if it looks like a lot of mods.

the cr 250 motors are bone stock and produce 43.7 hp with a fmf pipe and 47.1 with a pro circuit pipe. And yes thats at the wheels and have dyno sheets.
