Well I won't say exact numbers, but they aren't cheap I'll tell ya that, definitely the most I have ever spent on shocks thats for sure. Yea I am definitely excited to see how they perform. Justin

Are those steel or ti springs?

fandl450r
01-26-2006, 02:35 PM
Ti, thats what I meant when I said Axis' customer service sucks, they assured me they would be steel, but they are not, so I guess I will just pay the difference. I must say the Ti's are growing on me. ;)

Kilabanshee
01-26-2006, 02:37 PM
Is the rear Ti also?

fandl450r
01-26-2006, 02:39 PM
Nope rear is steel, and only dual adjust. For adding Ti, and the hi/lo speed compression was going to add 5-600 to the price, so I said noooo thanks.

did you really hug the ups guy?

fandl450r
01-26-2006, 09:04 PM
No I didn't hug the UPS guy. Yes it's set up for the GT thunder linkage, and the rear is only compression adjust.

"Smooth, Like Butta"

Ordered them along with the full ARS-FX front and rear end.

Well I won't say exact numbers, but they aren't cheap I'll tell ya that, definitely the most I have ever spent on shocks thats for sure. Yea I am definitely excited to see how they perform. Justin

Piggyback for the rear? I didn't even know that was an option, how does it even fit? Haha aint that the truth, these better ride like a Cadillac. Set up the ride height last nite, along with the compression and rebound adjustments. Haha yea, it has a permanently reserved spot there, well it did for a few hours, until I got ansy and put them on. ;)

nice bike and nice shocks man. the titanium is a whole difference feel. they are a faster spring so take that into thought when dialing them in. ;)

01-27-2006, 06:43 AM
They look great. But, I have yet to understand why Axis thinks that they're better than a triple rate setup just because the springs are Titanium.... Can someone explain this to me. I just can't justify all the hoplla...

From what I understand, the first is that the Ti springs are quite a bit lighter than the steel ones. Secondly with the spring rate of the Ti springs being different than that of a steel spring, it eliminates the need to use 3 springs. So in essence, the 2 springs act as 3. Lastly, they just look so darn good lol. ;)

Those are such sick shocks! Make sure to give us a ride report and how much better they preformed compared to other top styles.

fandl450r
01-27-2006, 07:38 AM
Will do! I got to ride some PEP ARC's with big bottles the other weekend for 2 days straight, and I had the other style Axis with steel springs. Ride report should be this weekend or the next! Stay tuned.

Titanium is lighter, almost as strong (for the same area, not weight...) than steel and got a lower elasticity modulus. What does this mean??? Simply that the spring can have less coils than a steel spring. Remember, less coil = more rigid spring, but because titanium have a lower elasticity modulus (easier to stretch or compress), the resulting spring will be lighter for the same rigidity. Another effect of this is that a 10'' long ti spring will have more usable travel than a 10" steel spring. Because the force in function of the displacement of a spring = spring constant (lbs/in for example)n * displacement, you can use a less rigid spring that will need the same force to be fully compressed, because it will be compressed more. Another benefit is the lower unsprung mass.

Hope this all make sense.

Looking good FandL!! I want a report as well...
Sometime in the near future i want to get some axis shocks, Piggy back might not be for me or my style of riding. Can you get the Ti springs from axis on their remote shocks?

When you say "my style of riding" what does that mean. I am looking into TI's and trying to gather as much as I can.

They are coming out with a piggy back rear, there are some being tested. Your rear rezzie actually should be mounted with the knob towards the rear and pointing almost straight down, unless the line was put on backwards.

fandl450r
01-29-2006, 11:34 AM
The line is run correctly, just I have a larger resi on it, so we had to slightly modify where it is mounted.

fandl is that a Quat Tech Plus foam seat? if it is could you take a picture from the side just of the seat? i really wanna see how it looks and also how it feels?

fandl450r
01-30-2006, 08:41 AM
Yea it is! I will try to take some pictures tonight. With me being a little taller, it was weird sitting up so high at first, but after a while I have learned to love it. It's a very very plush ride thats for sure. It soaks up a lot of the rough stuff without a problem, when I put this on they didn't have the Hump seat as Quad Tech refers to it, but overall the quality of the seat is excellent and the only thing I would change would be make it a little shorter. :)

fandl450r
01-31-2006, 07:17 AM
That's the best picture I have of the seat foam right now.

I was planning on ordering some axis piggy backs real soon. I'm gonna pass on the ti springs though. Too expensive for me.

02-03-2006, 07:08 AM
Do the bigger ones just cool better??

fandl450r
02-03-2006, 09:21 AM
According to the guy at Axis, there technically is no performace gains with the larger can. But with more air flow flowing across the resi, I am pretty sure the cooling process would be faster. Mainly, just more nitrogen in the can, and just looks better than the tiny ones.

Oh I bet, the high a few days ago was 2. With the windchill it was in the -20's. I just want spring to come! Well atleast I'll be in GA in a few weeks for the national!

fandl450r
02-25-2006, 06:26 PM
Well today I had the oppurtunity to try these bad boys out. The weather was somewhat cooperative but I was able to turn quite a number of laps. Here it goes:

Build/Quality: Axis has been long known for their quality of suspension products, and this was no exception. The shocks look awesome and seem to be very well manufactured. Everything bolted right up with no problems at all and fit like a glove.

Ride: Whatever I through at it these shocks immediately soaked it up whether it was a 60 ft downhill or 100 yards of breaking bumps, the shocks handled them flawlessly and showed no sign of fade. I set all my settings (rebound, hi/lo compression) in the middle and adjusted from there. From the factory they seemed to be a little stiff but as the day went on, and after softening them up a bit, they started to work like a champ.

Overall: You definitely get what you pay for, it's a high quality shock with LOADS of adjustment. The Ti springs are an industry first and also look kind of cool. I'd reccomend these to anyone who is serious about having the best shock out there.

Hey Justin where are you riding at?

-Clayton

fandl450r
02-27-2006, 07:35 AM
Clayton that's Fox Run in Friend, NE. Yea the shocks are taking everything I throw at it. Went to a new track yesterday and it was extremely technical. But these shocks just handled like a dream. Whoop sections, not a problem. Off camber doubles/rough landings, simple. Flat landing 110 table :) soaked it up like a champ.

These shocks were definitely worth the money/time spent.
