What is the average people are paying for new 2006 450R's E-start?

I know a bunch of you are going to tell tales of getting them OTD for like $5200 and what not, but I'd appreciate sticking to realistic numbers. I'm also not interested in traveling to some ATV Superstore in Redneckville, USA to wait in line and hope to get my machine before its sold from underneath me.

I'm getting close to buying and I want to know what I can expect out of a dealer. I will walk on ridiculous prices, but am willing to pay cash for a reasonable deal. Thanks in advance.

I would prolly say a reasonable deal would be between $5500 - $5800, just depends on how well the salesman is doing that week :D

Right, I am talking 100% OTD price here. I never settle for any other number than OTD on any deal I make.

I paid 6,045 OTD at Skip's Honda Center in Keyser, WV. I bought out of state so I didn't pay any taxes and I have no need to register in Maryland. I've since heard that they sell them as low as $5,995.

I now have a friend who swears he can get one to me for $5,800.

By the way, cash won't always guarantee you a better deal. Dealers make money on financing too so they actually prefer it.

I paid $6370 OTD last week. It broke down like this:

$6,000 06450ER
$330 Tax 5.5%
$30 Registration
$10 Document Fee

I presented this deal to 5 other dealers and nobody else would take it. I was going to drive to Tenn. , but I decided to pay a little extra to buy local.

Thanks for the heads up. I always forget that the bottom line of any transaction is to get the most possible amount of money out of the consumer. Hell, I'll finance and then pay it off the next day if I have to.

Hadn't really thought of buying out of state. Sounds easy to get away with. Might consider. Thanks.

My bud bought a YZ 125 out of state and saved almost $800 in taxes.

Wow, I am posting a lot about dirtbikes lately. Sorry. I am a quad guy til I die.

OTD $5799 is what I paid. Good people to deal with. 5 hour drive sucked.

Heard there was a dealer in Columbia, MO selling them for the same price.

Dude read the post and form your own oppinion. But if you really need the help I would think $6300 is fair and $6000 is pretty good. Now if some rebates pop up in the near future, it might be a little cheaper.

I don't think you can exactly go by an OTD price as it will vary depending on taxes, registration, title, etc.

Let's say you shouldn't pay more than $6,000 for the quad including freight and setup.

Then add your tax, registration, and title to that.

I actually paid 5,995 plus a $50 document fee so my OTD was 6,045. I didn't have any taxes or registration to worry about.

If the dealer won't go for that 6,000 base price then you need to shop around.

I think tax and registration should be included in an OTD price. Most people are going to pay tax and thats the bottom linie.

If you include taxes and registration then you will never feel good about your price compared to mine. You can't compare apples and oranges. If I tell you my OTD was 6,045 and yours was 6,300 then you must be thinking, "geez did I ever get ripped off." Plus, tax rates vary by state so getting your quad in one state will not compare to another state. You need to form a common basis so you can perform fair comparisons.

Bleedred, you could have a future in politics and statistical analysis. :D ;)

Ha ha. Fair enough, I wasn't thinking about different tax rates registration fees. Let's start over.

What did you pay for your 2006 450ER OTD before tax and registration?

^^^^^ only problem with that is, you wont be able to ride your quad on any public lands

you cant title or resister your quad without paying sales tax to either the state of MD or DNR

We are not saying that we are not going to title the quad. Just knowing that tax and registration vary from state to state we are trying to get a handle on what people are paying.

Hmmm....I ridden my quad on several MD state properties. I bought a riding permit at Greenridge National Forest. I've never had to have a title with me. The state wants money to give you a sticker. I've also ridden at the George Washington National Forest in VA without a problem.

I did get caught for illegally riding at Pataspco State Park in Maryland. The fine was $150 but no problems about not having a title or registration card.

I ride at several private places such as Hatfield McCoy.

these things much sell a little cheaper on the east coast. i paid 6350 OTD in Arizona 1 week ago, next best quote was 6480 OTD. think there is any reason to get the extended warranty, cost another 300 for an additional 42 mos.

Only if you know someone at the dealership who will go to bat for you in a bad situation. My experience is you will never get any warranty work done past the cost of the policy. If I had a buddy who owned the dealership then I would be all for it. Of course Honda tracks it against each dealership in terms of how many policies they sell versus how much warranty work they are claiming. If your buddy helps you out then he is basically screwing some other customer (that would usually be me!). In the end, revenue in must be greater than revenue out.

That is an incredible price. So for comparative purposes, you paid $5,488.37 for the quad plus $411.63 in sales taxes (California Sales tax is 7.5% right?). Furthermore if you deduct some amount for the title work, then you actually paid less than $5,488.37 for the quad.

Wow, I guess the dealerships are making more off these than I thought. I should be able to buy one there with no taxes and still come out ahead paying for cross country shipping. Actually my brother is a long distance truck driver. I might even be able to get him to pick it up free. :D

i just call all the dealerships in my area. i start with a number i feel real comfortable with and go from there. never negotiate a payment, always get an otd #. this works pretty well for my, hope it helps you. on my 06, i started with a 6K OTD price and went a little higher than i wanted @ 6350 OTD. although for AZ, this is the cheapest i've heard about.

In Michigan it seems most dealerships won't talk numbers over the phone. They want you to come in so they can work you over in standard sales fashion. You end up wasting a lot time.

The other common thing is when they throw some low number out and when you do go in and start writing up the sale the number is no where near what they originally said.

If you can't tell I have had many bad experiences with sales in general. I can't even buy a couch without feeling uncomfortable. It's not that I feel pressure to buy and fold under the pressure, I just can't stand the lies and in-your-face approach. IMO, sales must be the worst job ever. Constant lies and deceit to make a living.

Hey Bleedred, I'm in the same situation you are. I'm over by Muskegon and just got two quotes this weekend. West Mich. Power Sports in Muskegon says $7,149.00 OTD (WTF) and Powers Motor Sports in Fremont says $6,899.00 OTD. I bought an '04 from Powers a couple years ago and I'm gonna try to work them on a better price, or at least throw in a HRC kit installed. Let me know what prices you're getting.

Thanks,
Beefy

Well I haven't actually pulled the trigger yet. I'm not going to start shopping until I am ready to buy. I need to sell my 2001 440 first. I was just trying to get a feel for how much money I had to come up with before I buy. Those prices sound pretty high, but spot on for what I would expect. Seems that you can't ever buy anything for a reasonable price. I'm still not so sure about these numbers people are posting. You never really know anything about a persons personality when it's just words on a screen. Maybe the people that responded with numbers in the low 6's are forgetting the answers or had other fees buried into financing that they didn't know about. IDK. I'll know more when my time to buy gets closer. I was just trying to do some research on the front end.
