View Full Version : whats stock bore?

i think its 85mm ,but not sure. Im thinking on going with the 426 piston,and will need my jug bored out. i just need to know what to tell the guy at the machine shop.
if anyone has the 426, how do you like it/
i will be adding a stage 2 hotcam also

You're right, stock bore is 85mm. But you can't just tell them to bore it to a certain measurement and be done with it. The right way to do it is to give them the pistons/rings along with the jug so that they can take the exact measurements of the piston and use that measurement to bore the jug. Much more precise.

I learned this when I had to bore my jug for my first 440 kit. I had a machine shop that specializes in drag motors do it. They had never done a quad cylinder before but motors are all the same. They took the measurements of the piston and rings down to the thousandths place with a micrometer and then bored the jug so it all mated together perfectly :)
