I must be misunderstanding this MOD of removing the choke or something. If I removed my choke I would not be able to start my EX. I MUST use the choke when it's cold. Once warm it will fire right up withought the choke. So how do I start my EX without a chokle when it's cold?

u bump the pilot jet to a 42 or 45, pump the throttle before startin a few times, and start it

I removed my choke and both my 400's start first try. All I do is stab the throttle three times and push the start button. I didn't change my pilot jet. But I live in a warm climate.

I'm running the stock pilot jet and a 148 main jet. I'm going to change that to a 150 this weekend. I live in western PA and the climate is sometimes warm (lately), but is often cold, expecially in winter..

440 i'm not tryin to start anything but bumping the pilot is not that great of a solution. First, timewass's bike may have different jetting needs. So a 42-45 could be lean or way too rich, which will make it run like crap. The best answer I could give is just make sure your jetting is right and try pumpin the throttle like everyone else suggests.

Well today just to learn more about jetting I changed my main jet from the stock 148 to a 150. I didn't notice any difference at all. Should I have?

If you didn't notice much of a difference then you must be close. I would run as fat as possible with the main that the engine will handle. The other day I was messing with my R and could move the needle between the 2nd and 3rd position and not tell a differnce. Course I think my R is really messed up.:grr

I'm going to try moving the clip to the 4th position down tonight and see what happens.

I think that will be too rich. Most of the time you can add quite a few mods before having to go down on the clip, heck even my R is still running the stock clip position.
