Ok, so I was putting my radiator back into my quad last night, and I had the fan off of it. I realized that the quad looks awesome without the fan in it, and it looks really gay with a fan. My question is the fan REALLY needed? I would like to leave it off. My reasoning in leaving it off is that all of the older quads never had fans, and not much of a problem. I just like the look much better. Let me know guys. thanks!

i would prefer the fan on my 450r...but my crf450 wiring harness has no plugs for a fan, so i dont have one...

Why would you not run a fan? The cooler your engine runs, the more power it produces and last longer. it was designed for a fan wht not use it?

i can speak for the mx racers like myself who only run the quad at most 30 mins at a time...then its shut off for atleast an hour mostly 2-2.5 hours...in practice it goes about an hour then cools for a half hour, over and over and over....the fan just adds weight to an mx quad...

I was going take mine off because my friend doesn't use one but then he started having overheating problems when we were out play riding so I am definately leaving mine.

If you are not using the Crf ignition leave it on. I race Mx and when I come off of the track the fan is usually on. Besides it only weighs a couple of pounds if your that worried about weight take two packs of exlacks you'll lose a couple of pounds and your bike will be running cool:D .

seeing that the fans on both my 450rs never come on there really isnt a reason for them then because they arent helping it cool down

So if I let it idle it wont come on, but rev the throttle a few times after riding and it turns while im throttling. Dont expect to see it running at an idle though.

Run a fan, whats it going to hurt? wow two pounds ur not going to notice that two pounds, and its extra insurance. what If a race gets muddy? radiator gets clogged then your screwed

For all the more weight you'll lose by taking it off just leave it on...... Seriously, you'll lose maybe 2-5lbs. If your that worried about it, go to the gym and lose 2-5lbs off of you. Your never going to feel the difference on the track, and your motor will thank you.

i dont personally care about the weight...but i run a full crf wiring harness and flywheel etc...so i cant run a fan....and as far as i know my motor runs fine for a long time with no fan...

Everbody keeps talking about weight and he never said anything about weight. I have had my 450R for about a year now and have yet to see the stupid thing kick on, I'm ditching mine.

Its only 2-5lbs, but five pounds every here and there adds up. If you run XC id leave it on. Other then that it should be ok. I havent had a fan for about a year and havent had the slightest of problems. Everyone preaches about extra insurance, has anyone ever seen a trx motor blow due to overheating?

I dont have mine on and personally how much does the fan really help, if ur riding it and not letting it sit there, i would think air when ur riding it cools it more than that fan would ever do, am i right? well thats my opinion
