how reliable are the motors when you get 558 and above ?

The 558 is supposedly pretty reliable. Above that, the higher you go, the lower the reliability. Personally I feel anytime you open up a predator motor you lose reliability. They do not seem to last long with motor work. :( There are a few that continue to work well, but I have read about MANY who have hopped up their motors just to complain a couple months later of some sort of engine failure.

the best way to go without going into the motor is to get a pipe, rath header, Nicholas Carb mods (race and standard), a free flowing intake (Nicholas, Rath, K@N, Twin air, any clamp on) and mabey an ignition system. also, standard bore pistons are good too for reliablility. pretty much anything else will decrease your reliabilllity. i myself am going for the HMF pipe and various Nicholas Mods. check out www.predatorowners.com for more information on big bore preds and www.nicholascycle.com and www.rathracing.com for aftermarket stuff!

I am not sure which company but I know that someone has a 700cc stroker kit. I remember someone on predatorowners talking about it.

thats pretty crazy^^^^. i believe it too. i dont know why you would want to do anything like that though, your reliabillity will suffer badly!
Yeah, I would probably leave the internal part's of the engine alone unless you really need to.
WHATS A 440 DO TO YOUR POWER? CUZ I KNOW 600S AND ABOVE ARNT TO GOOD! BUT I HAVNT HEARD OF A 440!

The 440 kit, pretty much, puts out the same power as the 500, stock. It is a HC piston and gets a different HIGH rev CDI box.
I imagine, a set of cams and head work...it would rip pretty good but, still not worth the money. A 520 would give more power and no one motocrosses the predator professionally any how...

The reason there was a 440 kit was to give the riders the option to compete in the production classes with a 450 limit. ( because at the stock 500 the Pred was illegal in all of those classes)
The 440 kit was not designed to add power.
As for big bores- we had the most luck and best reliability in the 558 - we did build a 627 to race the Open class at the Nationals but I will be honest you will need a VERY big checkbook to build and maintain that motor.
I am speaking from experience we have actually built and raced a 440- 500 - 558- 590 and a 627. How is that for research!
If the the 440 kit puts out the same amount of power then why didnt they build the predators as 440s instead of 500s so then they could race then?
how much did it cost to do the 440? cuz i want to get into racing and i might want it! and does it make any noticable power lose? cuz i wanted a big bore but i heard they arnt to good!

Ok, I know that the 520 is a 2 mil larger piston and that it can be bored into the stock jug without going to a sleeve. But the question is, who sells these pistons, besides Nicholas cycle?
Because there is no way I am going to pay $1600.00 for about $900.00 worth of stuff.
Has anyone else noticed that Doug's prices seem to have gone thru the roof as of late?

My polaris dealer told me they could get me a 558 kit with teh sleeve installed for about $500. I think he said it was HPD.

HPD is the only one that carries the 558 kit. Apparently, Nicholas Cycle could make there usual 700,000 mark up on it.

No way in hell would I ever do a 520 kit. I am not going to spend all that time and money for 20cc, smallest I would ever go is the 558.
I didn't think you could bore a Predator cylinder since they are nikasyl coated. If that is true both would need a sleeve so the labor is going to be the same.
Can you run pump 91 octane gas with a 12.5:1 piston? I would rather have a 11:1 piston that way there is no worring about it. I refuse to have to goto a special place to buy race gas. Every kit I have seen coems with a 12.5:1 piston.

the 520 kit it set up for GNCC racing 520cc max allowed. You can bore it out large. I know of one shope that does a 560cc kit. The nikasyl is hard to bore and then you have too re-nilasyl the cylinder.
