These two slip-ons seem to be the most popular for the 400EX. Of these two which do you think would be the best for all around riding. Yes, I have searched and read through mostly all of the 30 pages on the "Best pipe for a 400EX" thread. Thanks

hmf..they sound so much nicer ndi hear the welds nd stuff break on the e series.

I would go with e series just because hmf is loud and on the e series you can adjust it.

HMF. Its loud when you want it to be and then when you need it to be quiet, just pop the quiet core in.

Does the "Quiet Core" come with the pipe, or do I have to buy it seperate? How much does it cost? I really don't want to have spend over $300 bucks.

HMF definatly....it is just a whole lot nicer quality of a pipe

on the HMF site it cost about 230$ i think for the SLip on.. and if u got quiet core .. if u have 2 buy.. i doubt would break 300

Do any of you have a video with a 400EX with a HMF or White Brothers E-Series slip-on exhaust, or do you know someone who has a video on here that they can post. I mean one with no music so you can hear the exhaust sound. Thanks again

I like its adjustability, but as other's said the welds do break after a while. Especially if you jump alot.

I think next time around I'd try hmf's, the chrome one I like alot.

I mean I had the eseries on my atv for a few seasons before the weld broke but it did break and its broke again.

I think I like the E-Series too. My cousin has one on an 02' 400EX and he likes it. His welds never broke. If I got the E-Series and the welds did somehow break it wouln't be a major problem for us because my dad runs a sheet metal shop and they weld stuff all the time. I'd still like to hear it again before I buy a pipe.

the e-series sounds like anus, my friend has it on his 04 400ex and i was not impressed by the gains it gave either

I have the e series with no discs in and it sounds awesome, and i still feel a gain in it. I don't have a camera though or i would tape it.

Heres a review on one.

Review of the White Brother slip-on silencer for the 400EX
(written by 400exRacerX)

I had ordered my White Brothers E-series exhaust from Dennis Kirk a couple of days ago and it came to me in a well packaged box and was unharmed. I couldn’t wait to slap the pipe on and ride. So I sat in my garage and hooked it up as fast as possible.

It was fairly easy to install. So I rolled my 400ex out of the garage and fired it up. Wow the sound difference! It sounded great, I love that deep loud roar of a 4-stroke engine. So I quick threw my helmet on and went around the neighborhood, I had noticed some power gains but not what I was hoping for, I also had noticed I was backfiring. So I brought it back into the garage and immediately assumed that I was running too lean. I was right.

I went out to my local dealership and purchased a 158 main jet and a 42 pilot jet. When I got home I ripped my bike apart and took the carb off. I quickly unscrewed the 4 screws holding the float bowl on to the carb and took the float bowl off, I unscrewed the stock main jet and screwed the new one in, then repeated the same step for the pilot jet. Then I reassembled everything and took it out for a ride it worked great! My plug was the most perfect looking brown.

Now that my 400 was re-jetted and had the pipe on it I had to take it on a long ride to give it a real power test. Wow there was a big difference when I re-jetted the carb. You can run the e-series with stock jetting but you may have to take some discs off of the pipe. I would recommend this pipe to any power hungry rider.

I got it jetted to a 155 main and ya i run no discs. I dunno if you can run it like that without jetting, i'm sure you probably can but i'm not positive. But i would jet it anyway, just to get more out of it.

here you go:
www.motosport.com

you can buy the HMF for $220 shipping/tax included. i would say the HMF is a great buy. i used to have it on my old 350 raptor, my friend has one on his 400ex, and alot of other people i know have it. the HMF is primarily used for low end torque and midrange. you dont gain a whole lot in the top end, but you will get there much quicker. yes, the HMF is a bit loud. i think around 100dbs or so, and just so you know, the quiet core is like $20. However, when using the quiet core, performance does suffer a bit! i cant say how much because i never had mine dynoed, but it is a decent amount. honestly though, the HMF, despite being loud has a good "throaty" sound, and it isnt that much of a nuisance.

im sure the E-series is prety good. having the option of adjusting it with disks is a plus, but i dont believe it produces as much HP as the HMF does. my opinion would be to get an HMF! hope this helps!

01-24-2006, 11:17 AM
white bros. their must be a reason y it won the 400ex pipe shoot out. ctracing made the most hp but white bros was only a couple points less hp than ct but white bros won cuz it was the better buy cuz it was quieter and made almost the same hp. hmf was included in the shoot out to and white bros won still.

aint the e series with all the discs a 100dbs thats what i thought or am i wrong.

got a question for u guys

the e series with 4 plates in it is it louder than stock true or false.

01-24-2006, 11:36 AM
white bros pipe comes at 96dbs. with 4 disks it will most likely be quiet as stock but will probly work like crap like that.

I ran my e-series with 9 rings and it wasn't as loud as it came wiht 12. It had plenty of power gains across the board.

Many say the hmf has more. I haven't rode a 400ex with one. I have ridden with an eseries, t4 and an e2. Of them my eseries was the best since its adjustable.

But mine didn't come with one. I bought a prodesign at the sametime.

I have an E-Series on my 2004 400ex....along with a K&N air filter and powert up jet kit for the Carb. I noticed an substantial increase in low end performance and a little increase in overall top speed. It is adjustable for top end increase or bottom end increase, or just somewhere in the middle.

I am not happy with the quality of construction. I ride every week in the bumpy dunes and have had to repack several times. That's no problem. But the replacement rivets began to tear the outer pipe. Eventually, the outer pipe was no longer usable. I had to get sheet metal and wrap it around the original tube and then have it welded. The rivets still last only a short while. next time I'm going with a full-on stainless steel set up.

Other than quality of construction, I extremely pleased with the pipe. It's been tested by the dune police twice and tested out to 93 and 95 decibals.

You can get the e series from sweetquads.com but its not online on there page. So the number is 253-222-2848. Just tell em that you heard there was a deal and that you heard from a friend that he got the e series for $215 shipped. And they will sell it to you, the shipping takes about a week, but you will get a white bros. powerfilter with it. Pm me if you want more info bout it.

Hey, guess what I got my order yesterday and the FILTER came with the slip-on!!! For everything (Shipping, pipe, and filter) it was all $199.99!!! Going riding tommorrow to give it a real test. By the way does the White Brothers Powerfilter do any thing to make more power because it looks like the stock one except matbe a little bigger and its red and gray.
