I was racing all these different quads today on my 400 and we had drag raced probably 5 or 6 times by now. So after the last one i pull in my clutch and start coming to a stop, and as soon as i do my clutch cable broke. Dang it! Maybe i shouldn't of been speed shifting.

Speed shifting? You cable won't break from power shifting, if thats what you were talking about... The cable wouldn't even break from anything I could relate to "speed shifting", just wear and tear, a flaw or improper maintaince/installation. :)

If your talking about power shifting you dont even use the clutch so it wouldent make a difference.

does popping the clutch tear the crap out of your tranny?

Puts a lot of stress on the clutch plates etc, the gearing may not mesh properly (wears gears), and is harder on the motor.

No, i'm talking about going in through all the gears and staying on the throttle while I pull in the clutch and shift. So i don't even let off the throttle the whole time.

ya i doubt thats good on ure motor holding the throttle in while shifting/pulling clutch in..

Even though that is hard on gears/motor, it still doesn't affect your clutch cable at all, its either just old and worn out or you didn't take care of it. Its a $15 fix.;)

Yup, o well i've learned my lesson, and hopefully it is less than $20.
