Ok, I've been outta the game for a few years now, but still keepin up on the trends and what not, talkin to you guys. Theres been a pretty good oppertunity knockin at my door...I think. One of my good buddies has a '89 250r that hes trying to get rid of, cause of coarse, he's got a lonestar/crf 450 now. its got the following mods:

330r ESR Powervalve(basically brand new)
Full ESR Pipe
CR250 Clutch
Elka all around
Quad Tech CF Rad. Scoops
Quad Tech CF hood scoop
Quad Tech CF Radiator
Quad Tech CF Tank Cover
Walsh Radiator
Tag X-5's
AC bumper
Full AC Skids
Holeshot XC's all around(new)
400ex Plastic
Orig. Frame, But Im pretty sure its all gussted w/o any cracks!
And What ever Else you see.

All the Aftermarket stuff is less than 3 years old, he bought the 250r bonestock quite a few years ago.

He wants $3000 total, but he says he would let me make payments on it of a couple hundred a Month.

I'm just debating, because the 2 stroke trend is obviously declining :(

Help Me out guys!

I WANNA RIDE AGAIN!

i would honestly think your a retard if you didnt buy that for 3 grand. A250r is a classic in my mind, its timeless, 250r's are always gonna be bad no matter what the current trend is.

heres my income Breakdown:

approx $600/mth

600 - Start out with
242 - Truck payment
about 80 - Nextel
about 120 on gas

That leaves me with about 260 a month "profit/spending cash"

In May, when I turn 18, I will have to dish out another $100/mth for auto insurance!

thats now $160 a month after May. But in JUNE, I will be graduating and starting to work full time, and my income will hopefully almost double!

So, I dont know whether to just save up for this thing hope there will be random spikes in my income (Graduation money, Tax returns, Birthdays...) Or try to convince him to let me pay him $100 a month!!

GOD...Help Me out here guys! I know its probably confusing

Ok, Im going to his house friday to check it out and talk payments over with him. he now wants 3,500 total if im going to be doing payments. I'll take more pictures of it then so you guys can see the front end and all that. Is there anything I should really be looking at when I inspect it???

when ur looking at it ride it and see if theres any heavy vibraions, when u ride it and it bogs out alot that might mean the elactrical system is bad, check for any nosie in the engin like a ticking sound if there is it might need a rebuild, if its really hard to start thats the electricle to(plus its a 330) check the axle barings and make sure nothing is bend ..ummmm.... but before u buy it tell us if you see any thing wroge with it..hope this will help you out

Im a little skeptical too, ive never ridden a 2 stroke quad before, is it hard to get used to?

02-14-2006, 01:47 PM
depends what you had before, since i have a 400ex, my friends used to have a blaster all modded out, bored, etc. and it felt just like my 400 except for how big it was, and louder!!!

I made the jump from 4 strokes to a 250r, having only ridden a 2 stroke a couple times. I would say the biggest thing to get used to is less bottom end power, but you have a PV so that will help. And also just the way they sound is so much different from a 4 stroke.

02-14-2006, 01:53 PM
get it...
a 2 stroke is a different type of ride..you will love it...
but beware...parts are getting fewer and farther in between...and resale value is going down...but i would not let that hinder me if it si in good condition.

here is one thing that you can do...get a loan and buy it for the 3 grand...sell it for 4 grand and pay off the loan(waiting a few month to build a history with it)...get another loan and buy something else...you made some money and built some credit, along with being able to afford a little more expensive machine in the end...

Go for it. That's a great price for an R that nice. I just picked up a good running 86 R and it really isn't hard to get used to even compared to my 300ex. You just have to keep the rpm's up more. The power is absolutely addictive.

2 strokes dont really feel that different, the only thing i really noticed the first tme that i rode one it the absence of bottom end. if you have ever riden any of the new age four-strokes then you wont even notice it. but if your coming off of a 400 or 300ex or something like that, it will just be different, its nothing to be afraid of.

and if it were me id would jump all over that R but i dont really know what your whole finacial situation is, even though it is a REALLY nice bike you might be better off in the long run if you saved your money for a house, nicer car, family, etc.

I would definitely do it if you can work the numbers out. One thing that stood out was your Nextel bill: 80 a month? You're getting raped on a friggin cell phone bill, I pay like less than 30 a month on mine. Every little bit helps...
Good luck on making everything work out :)

02-14-2006, 03:48 PM
holy chit...if u dont get that give me his email address!!

***UPDATE***

Ok, I just got off the phone with my friend. He says $500 takes it home. And i'll give him $200 a month after that, until $3500 is reached. He is ALSO going to throw in a new Houser swingarm for it and mounted paddles! He said EVERYTHING on this quad is from 2004+. Except the frame and the stem. The frame has been powercoated some kind of gray/silver. It is perfectly straight and has been gussetted. He said the only thing I need to do to it is tighten the axle nut, and its ready to go! The rebuild is fresh. Im going over there tomorrow to get pics of it.

Yeh, I started out on a 2-stroke, I was like 7, rode my dads warrior, got a feel for the clutch and the manual tranny, then got a dirtbike 2-stroke.

I love them, thats why I'm looking for a 250r, everyones tellin me and my parents and my friends I shouldn't get one becuz "Its old, no reverse, and a 2-stroke" Im like, I don't need reverse cuz I KNOW HOW TO RIDE, (cuz I don't use it on my 300, just slide it or use a hill to roll back on), Yeh its old but still to me the best quad ever made, and I LOVE 2-strokes. They'll be sorry when they ride with me and all they see is dust in the sand and I'm gone. LoL

Anyway, you just stay in a gear lower, there is no runnin 5th, just puttin along, chuggin, you gotta stay around 2,000rpms I'd say for the best. Then when you get on it and hit the powerband, she flys and front ends like to come up.

You'll have fun with it.

you dont build credit like that, you gotta create a track record, payments for at least a year, borrowing and giving back doesnt build credit like they tell u in school....
