I picked up a use 300ex not too long ago.Thought I had a leaking seal but turns out someone along the line had thrown a chain and put a hole(pretty good sized) in the case.I just don't understand why people take off the case savers.Anyways short of welding what can I use to fix this?

No kinds of epoxies will hold worth crap, ive seen people try it to many times. Better to just buy a new case.

I used JB weld for mine. Its still holding up strong.

If you need a case saver you can get one from www.servicehonda.com

A guy I know threw a chain an his Warrior yesterday, and put a hole in the case. The only thing I can think of is have it welded. Should not be too expensive.

JB weld would be the only thing I would trust besides getting it welded, or try to find a used side casing

Yes..and yes it will. If you ever are unfortunate enough to have the chain break and hit the case saver or try to wad up against it, it would probably not be a bad idea to replace it. The one time it has happened to me my stock case saver got warped pretty good, even bent the top bolt that holds it on. So that shows you how much force comes thru there. I replaced it so if it happens again there will be a fresh strong case saver there to hopefully not brake if the chain hits it :macho

jb is some good stuff. I used it in a 230 quadport with a hole as big as a quarter still going 1 year later

The best stuff i've found for fixing hole or cracks would be Marine tex. you can buy it at a boating supply place . there is 2 kinds one is grey for fiberglass the other is black which is what you what. I put a glob on a stripped bolt one time so i'd have more surface to grab and the bolt came right out after that. I also have a friend that repaired an oil pan on a car with it with no problems.

thanks for all the help.I guess I am going to try jb weld.for now.I will try to locate a case half and replace it later on.If I found someone to weld it would I have to atke the shifter shaft and related parts out?they seem to be really close to the case and I wonder if the heat would hurt it?

Just make sure you clean all the oil and dirt away before using it or it won't stick! I used it to patch a hole in a Blaster case years ago and 3 years later it was still holding up.

Ussed this stuff on a yz 80, it has been on the bike for almost 20 years. If it still the same compound it is good stuff:)
