Im selling my blaster and going to probably get a 300ex but was wondering how everyone thinks a 400 would be for me. I have had my blaster for about a year and a half and want to get a 4 stroke I ride mostly trails and at coal hills near my house. I am going to be 15 and am 5'4'' maybe a little taller and about 120 - 125 lbs. Im going to my dealer on the weekend and will see how I fit on one and if its comfortable for me. How does everyone thingk a 400 will be for me?

the only thing is I dont know anyone with a 400 my brothers friend had one a few years ago and i only road on the back but the power seemed good i just need to see if im comfortable on it Im would probbably get used to the power is there a huge difference in power from the blaster my mods are in my sig but not sure if I should spend the extra money on one ( im going to buy a used one) because I know that im comfortable on the 300

You don't have to ride it wide open. Go ahead and get the 400, you'll be glad you did in a year or two.

I was debating between the two myself when I made my purchase. When a guy pulls up on a 300, it makes me thank god that I didn't go that route. You will get used to it. 400 all the way. In a couple years it will be people debating between 400's and 450's. Keep that in mind.

getting a 300 would be pretty much downgrading from your blaster. go for the 400ex, or perhaps an ltz/kfx/dvx. it is all about what you are comfortable on because all of those machines are very similiar in performance! good luck!

400 all the way, dont even think about the 300. like they said it'll just disappoint you in time and you'll want to buy 400.

i was your age when i got my 400, same size, wieght, etc., i had a honda formena 400 4x4, got bored with that right away, then got the 400. I started out staying in 4th gear, never wanted to shift into 5th, too fast for me then, but once i got the hang f it i shifted into 5th. Yea its kinda of a big difference from a blaster, unless you had a ton of mods, cause my friend had everything you could possibly get besides like NOS and crap like that, and it could keep up with mine, but he has a 400 now! lol but yea try the 400, you will surley like it

DITTO.

Kid your still young. THe 400ex is a great bike that you can have for a long time and do a lot of mods to as you get more money. You've obviously been riding for a while so you'll do fine with the power...you can find a nice used one for around 2500 also. My advice, Dont go through a dealer unless you have to finance either. APR on used bikes were like 13% when i was looking for mine.

I agree with badass4man. Get the 400 and you will grow into it. The only advantage the 300 has over older 400's, is reverse, but the new 05 400's now have reverse. Good luck, ride safe, and have fun!

Get the 400. Almost everybody I know that had a Blaster went straight to a 400 and nobody had any problems. They have power, but it is super easy to handle.Very dependable too

is there any differences in the 05-06 400s and the 04 and older body style, except for the reverse, because they only had the 05's and 06's at my dealer and no older body style ones and i didnt feel comfortable on them. Does anyone thik that the older ones are more comfortable or are they pretty much the same.

I am not sure about that but atleast they will be more comfy than the 300ex with suspension mods it will ride like a dream like revalving or aftermarket shocks when I was 13 I went from a blaster with a toomey pipe and other mods to a 400ex with a slip on and I did fine with it I love the 400ex it is much easier to ride I hope you like it if you get one but I would go with the 2004 or older then you could save some money and by mods wqith the money you save from buying a new one

If course it will feel like a cow to you, your riding a blaster. There is a lot more there on a 400ex.

My friend used to have a blaster and when he jumped on my 400ex he said it just felt weird. Now that he has a 400ex he said that he could NEVER go back.

Don't just judge the feel of the quad while you are sitting on it at the dealer. At any rate of speed it will feel much more stable and soak up the bumps without trouble.

I think they are the same except the reverse, plastic-light, and gear ratios.

Hey, I know what you mean but I bought a blaster and a 400ex at the smae time. Both were my first ATV's. I bought the balster kinda for my wife and I wnated the 400ex. However after riding both she kinda takes to the 400. Im stuck with the blaster most of the time. But I can tell you. I have taken both on a hard trail in NC, and the blaster did very well, but i got stuck a feew times. The 400ex ate it up. It felt big like you said but it goes away after a bit. Probably since I switch back and forth so much but when I am riding the 400ex I forget how big it feels. I personaly dont think there is a better atv out there for the price. First and fore most its a HONDA, second its priced right and has so many mods available for it. Sure it doesnt have reverse but from my point, a trail doenst have to many places to back up, and on a track I'm not going in reverse. Its a nice feature but not necessary at all. My 2003 400ex was 2,000, when i bought it and the middle to end of summer. You just cant beat it. Anyone else that thinks this machine is slow or not enough power is either looking to race or has too much money on there hands. just my two cents though.

I agree. There are so many people out there that think that they need a 450R/YFZ when they really don't. Back in the day, the 400ex was the thing to have and nobody really complained about it. In all reality it hasn't changed any from when it was new in 1998/1999.

I am 6 foot and 225 I just got an 05 400ex for my first quad and love it. The thing is a freaking tank (indestructible) I have flipped it taken it into a wall on the side of a wash and nothing. I highly recomend it.
