Either way both the 400ex or the KFX/LTZ400 would be good for woods racing. They are equally fast in the tight stuff and with a pipe and jets you will have plenty to get ya around.

Im a honda fan but an honest honda fan. I have friends with a 99' 400ex , 05' 400ex and a DVX400 which is basically a Z400. I have rode all plenty and i think the Z is better in every way but that's JMO.

I am a honda fan, but i would take a z400 all day long over a 400ex. KFX400 same deal ...... either way.

same here ive had hondas all my life and decided ot go with a kfx400 and after riding my cousins 400ex the kfx is better in every way. i still love hondas tho and if i woulda had the money i definitely woulda gone with the new '06 450R which KICKS ***

The Suzuki/ Kawasaki/ Artic Cat 400s are definately better. Both bikes are awesome ( Honda and "Suzukawicat" 400s) and can be killer, but stock for stock the "Suzukawicat" bikes are superior. Modded, I would have to say similar and both pretty darn awesome, but I do believe that the DVX, KFX, and Z have a somewhat slightly better engine making it harder for the EXs to keep up.

LOL, have to add though, I like the challenge brought by those guys that have it set on the Z ( And similar bikes) will ALWAYS be better. I love smoking those cocky guys, that brings the most fun to me. Just like when you beat a 450 on a 400. :blah: :D

definetly go with the lz/kfx/dvx! DOHC liquid cooled VS. SOHC air cooled 40ex! i am not knockin the 400ex cuz they are very good machines. honestly if you have two equal riders and are racing through the woods ,both machines are about equal! the lz/kfx/dvx will take a 400ex in a drag all day though!

01-26-2006, 10:06 AM
maybe its jsut i have one, but go with the 400ex (wheelie king) if u want the 5mph difference in speed go with the z/kfx/dvx

Is there anyone out there with a non-biased opinion who could help me decide between the Z and the 400ex. I don't have alot of experience on a sport quad this size. I was wondering which is a better overall quality machine (dependable) and do they both handle well

Also which quad wheelies easier as i would prefer one the stayed on the ground a little more.

Thanks
Kyle

the 400ex is the best wheelie quad but i would get the z because the 400ex dosent have reverse

The new 400EX has reverse, though is slightly slower ( Umm, guess that isn't a problem in trails though, is there?).

My opinion ( I find) is non-biased. I do not own a Z, KFX, or DVX, nor do any or my buddies. Yet, I have a 400EX, and I still recommend the Z.... newer technology is going to be better.... at least to some extent.... no matter what. I love my 400EX, and would not trade it for any other bike. It is also a good choice... especially if you can find one cheap. The 400EX is a great bike and will suit your needs well.... if you ever desire more, that is upgrades are for! Basically, you cannot go wrong with it either ( Especially if money is tight, GOOD used 400EXs can be picked up quite cheap, and rebuilt to a brand-new type " condition" for still little cash). Now.... if money is not a factor, go with the Z...... it is undoubtedly superior in most cases ( Stock, that is). If it is, the 400EX would be a great choice as well ( Or if you interested in a build.... these bikes are killers when done right!).... either way you cannot go wrong.;)

I race supercross with my alteredZ and it runs great. Holeshots are nice, little heavy but otherwise solid as a rock. I usually don't run it anywhere but on the track but when I do it's a lot of fun. The gas gets expensive though camII gas is 5.45 gallon

oh no not another comparison......like many have said the z's are an awesome choice for all around usage whether your just cruising or out to put the hammer down. i've had both and i liked the z400 i primarly just ride for the fun of it with my buds, i have raced it a couple of times in motocross events like at budds creek, maryland before i had done any motor work and i got to admit there were some 400ex's on the track that were pretty tough to hang with. they might have had some work done but it didn't matter it was a learning/experience to me just to go ride and in the end you would be happy with either one but i give the edge to the z400.put a good pipe and jet the bike right and you won't be discouraged for a little while anyways

that is one bad 400ex but the z400 is better for wheelies. the ex is a close 2nd thoe.

I'd say the 400 ex for sure, but It depends alot on the rider and how much time is put into practicing. It may take a bit more time to learn a z400 but it can still wheelie awesome.

Check out the video that djeruink and I put together coming soon ( I emailed it today to the atvriders.com ) in the video section of this website. We'll show you guys how both the z400 and the 400 ex can get wheelies done.

i ride a kfx400 and i love it but i have to disagree eith tha z as being tha wheelie kings the kfx and zs pull up tha easiest but the hondas r perfectly balanced unlike tha zs and kfxs

the only difference between the z400 and kfx400 is the shocks, KFX shocks are a bit heavier than the z400s.

and plastics which you and everyone should know

Im sorry but how does the ex beat the kfx but loses to the z ? if the z and kfx are the same bike ? someone been drinking the bong water again .............ok I ride red but between the two the z would get the pick by the smallest of margins due to the liquid cooling only, honda sticks a radiator on the ex and my choice goes back to honda.
