free mod for the 06 450r

there is a free mod that i found on the 06. in the hrc kit there is a plug in for the stock cdi the eleminates a green wire which is located on the far left side of the cdi if your looking at the bike from the front. its on the only four wire plug on the cdi. what it does is raises the rpms up to 10,500 and the limiter stll works the guy from rossier told me this when i bought my pipe. oh and be sure when you cut to leave room to put it back to gether if needed and put some electrical tape on the wires.

I wouldn't recommend this for stock bikes though. Cutting that wire gives you more RPM but it's supposed to change the timing curve as well. I wouldn't cut the wire until at least getting a full exhaust.

yeah i agree with you about waiting until full exhaust cause i noticed allitle change in how the bike did act until i put my exhaust on. the its like night and day.

Has anyone else tried this mod? I don't have a stock bike but I also do not have an aftermarket exhaust.

Is this mod pointless with the stock exhaust?

So are you saying if you have a HRC kit onstalled on a 06 you still need to cut the wire? I thought the HRC came with the plug needed to raise the limiter.???

Do a search for "Green Wire Mod" or something to that nature....there's already been about 1000000000 posts on this subject. You should be able to find all the info you need...

To sum it up though....I wouldnt recommend it till you get an exhaust or really get a cam. My bike even with exhaust really didnt take advantage of the extra RPMs until I put the HotCam in. Then the bike would actually "pull" the extra RPMs, its a nice mod to do cuz you can really rev the bike....

Is the cam really the only requirement to take advantage of this mod?

Honda designed this mod to be used with an opened up exhaust/intake, and a cam. Unless you find yourself hitting the rev limiter all the time I wouldn't do it unless you have the above mods.

I had honda do my HRC kit in my 06 so im not sure if the extra 1000 rpms is already done or if i have to do something else.

Pop your hood off and take a look. You'll see a small sub-harness (about 5 inches long) plugged in the far left of the CDI box if they installed it. If it's not there you should verbally rip them a new one as they didn't completely install the kit.
