I need some input from you 400 ex riders. Im sure this has been asked before but i will ask again. My son is wanting a pipe for his 05 400ex. What would you recommend? Our price range is 300 to 500.00. Do we also need a head pipe, or do you suggest using the stock one. He will not be racing he wants that throaty 4 stroke sound and the added power.

The head pipe gives you more power, sure, but it isn't necessary. The power is not going to be as obvious as the aftermarket silencer's power increase on these engines.

if the 2 headers coming offf the engine are not the same length then u might lose some power
