I have a studded harescramble race coming up, and I was wondering how putting ice screws in my Razr2 rears and Razr1 fronts would work. I do not want to hurt my tires and have to run tubes, so I was just wondering if this would be a good idea or if I should get another pair of tires to put the studs in so that I do not ruin my tires?

IMO, RAZR II and IRAZRs cost too much money to shoot screws into. Just get some older tires and kill them:o

if they are like new condition i would buy a lot of 1/2" long ice screws, this way they won't go through the tire and you wont ruin anything. also i suggest running a ***** load of them, the more you have the less you will shoot out when your spinning the tires like crazy. if you wanted to ruin a set of tires i would say buy the 1" screws and run them all the way through, but 1/2" screws will probally work out fine for you for a race or so.

they only need to last for 2 races, and I was planning on putting one short screw in each lug of the tire, so I guess the short ones would be 1/2 inch?

what is a studded harescramble ?? a cross-country race in the winter on ice ??

anyway i think that 1 stud per lug is not enough for ice. Ice tires (cheng chings) works better for ice but if there is snow they wont be so great. I say if there is snow , stud your razrs as much as you can.

like EXRIDER43 said, put a lot of them in. i would run probally 4 or 5 per lug on those tires if you want to get somewhat decent traction. also the more you have the less that will rip out, that is the key with those short ones, some tires have softer compounds (stock 400ex tires) and spit them out much quicker than a hard compound tire (cheng shin C826).

it is basically a cross country course with some mx thrown in, and it is in woods/ fields, so there is not actually ice that i am racing on, it is more of just frozen ground, so I still want to use my razrs, but we are allowed to use studs, so every little bit of traction helps

well dont take the risk to ruin your tires during the race and get some maxxis 4-snow's tires they will be alot better I think.

Not on hardpack ground with no ice or snow.

The 1/2 inch screws will fly out no matter what, the only way to slow them from pulling is to get longer screws and run them right through the tire. They still pull out then too. If you put too many screws in each lug, then they lose effectiveness. Your best bet is to run 2-4 screws in each lug 1/2inch ones, and then just have extras on hand to replace the lost ones for you next race.

I have 1/2 inch in my slighly worn razzar 2's. they work mint. dont get awosem traction comparted to some,,, but I only have 2 in each lug.

and they dident puncture the tire.
