NEED A WAY TO GET RID OF THE STARTER BUTTON BECAUSE I HAVE NO USE FOR IT BEING THERE. CAUSE HAVE NO LIGHTS AND THE KILL SWITCH IS USELESS TO ME. BUT IS THERE ANY WAY I CAN JUST GET A STARTER OFF ANOTHER BIKE OR QUAD THAT JUST HAS THE BUTTON TO START IT.

We replaced the start switch on my son's 300ex with a stop switch off of a yz85 dirt bike. It was about $12 from the Yamaha shop.

DOES THE WIRE JUST BOLT ON TO THE YZ 85 STOP SWITCH. OR WILL I HAVE TO RIG SOMETHING UP TO THAT SWITCH TO MAKE IT WORK.

It will work fine. It's just a normaly open switch that closes when you push it in. Any switch that style will work.

Just splice the new switch in to the existing switch wires. The Clymer or other service manual will tell you the color of the wires if your not sure.

I would solder the new connection and cover it with heat shrink tubing to make it more reliable.

400ex28 took a kawasaki dirtbike killswitch and mounted that as his starter...he picked the kx b/c it is water proof. i got rid of my stock everything assembly and have the starter button rig up to my handlebars...not the greatest idea but its been working for about 4 or so months now
