shock adjustment

on the stock 400ex rear shock theres this adjusting screw on the side of the shock what does this do? how will it effect how it rides?

if it is on top it would be the compression adn that adjusts the hardness and softness of the shock the bottom dial is the rebound which adjusts how fast the shock returns to full travel

and adjusting the spring thats adjusting the preload right?

yes to get your rear end to sit lower you move the preload rings up and making your rear end higher when sitting on it you move them down
