I'd like to paint my dirtbike rims, and I'm wondering if paint will hold up? I would of course clear coat them. Any opinions?

Paint would hold for about an hour. Pay the extra money and get them powdercoated.

It will hold up if you don't leave the garage, powder coat is the way to go.

if you prep it and do it right it'll last, I painted my banshee and 7 months of xc it still looks good.

prep it right and dont use a spray bomb on them, good paint will last along with good clear;) the good thing is you can allways touch up and chips unlike PC.

your correct, prep is the leading factor with any coating, however powder coat can be touched up just like paint.

the problem with paint is that it (the majority) is not designed for the abuse found with atv's. there are paints on the market that are every bit as strong as powdercoat, however the cost and the expense to have them applied is usually way over the cost to have it powdercoated in the first place.

Don't paint your rims! It won't even last through lacing up the spokes in the wheel. If you want them to look like schict after the first ride, then do it. If you want to have nice looking wheels spend $70 and get them powdercoated. Do it ONCE, do it RIGHT the first time.

i saw somebody on the internet that painted his rims on his quad gun metal black and his seemed to stay in pretty good condition for quite a while he said. only a few chips.

IMO, excell rims would be the wise choice. they come in many colors and the anodized finish is superior in durability to paint or pc.

I think I may take pappy's advice and get some excel rims. they really arent that exspensive...about 250 for both irms, and spokes. only prob is I cna't get the spoke sin a different color..I guess I'll get the spokes powdercoated.
