Ok I have my 95' 300EX engine out for a first time freshening. Me and a friend were talking and he said instead of sinking $650 or more into my stock engine why couldn't I use an engine from an XR 400 or 500 or 650? Has anyone ever heard of trying this? Could it work? Please enlighten us! And don't call me a dumbass if it seems too far fetched! :D

350x 3 wheeler motor. Powroll makes a kit to put it in, as well as an exhaust. Its quite a bit faster, plus it can be worked up to like 450+. 350x swinger and rear shock work too, and its +1.25 or so.

I thought that was a Lonestar frame, with 300 plastics, gas tank, and some other little stuff.

I actually still have the issue of Dirtwheels where they featured the "TRX600". It was built with an XR600 motor with a Laeger chassis and Laegers long travel 300EX suspension with WP shocks. I guess Laegers used to make a lot of parts for conversions like that. The whole setup was pretty mean looking.

The only motor that I would recommend swapping in, would be the 350X motor. Or if you're wanting more power in the 300 chassis then you should build up your stock motor to put out more power. Otherwise, I'd just buy a different quad, cuz trying to swap in a 400 motor would just be a waste of time and money, when you could just as easily get a used 400EX.

there are alot of options out there. you can cut splice and channel the frame and put a 4-cylinder street bike engine in there if you have the desire and resources. the problem is that you're still going to have a 300ex.
as far as the 350 conversion, to me, it's not worth it. i had a 250x with a high comp. piston, cobra pipe, and the airbox lid off that walked all over a 350 ex. i know the guy had a pipe and the airbox lid off, but i don't know what else he had.
i have a friend that ran gncc races and refused to go up to a 400ex. he said he liked the 300 because it was smaller and quicker to get through the tight sections.
i guess it's all personal preference.:p

a 350x with 10 or 11:1, cam, and 400ex carb will run with 330's, and its not even stressed. or you could go to a 450 bore kit and really get some results.

So I looked into the 350X conversion and I want to keep my electric start. They make a starter for it but it's another $350! I am just going to put a .060 11:1 wiseco in and a cam valvesprings, and valve job and call it good. Any recomendations for cams? I am also going to use a white bros. Headpipe and HMF silencer. Thanks alot for the good info

I have a 02 300 ex and i am going to put an engine in it from a cr 500 or a xr 650. you can make anything work as long as you have the money. all you need is a costume engine mounts and exhaust system. it is going to be stupid fast when i am done. the only other upgrades will be a shock conversion kit from www. dimondjcustoms.com. :D
