Hey everyone, i have a honda 450r with the hrc kit and i want to get a hi compression piston but can't figure out what brand to get. a little input from all of you would be great. i am leaning toward the bladwin 14:1 but have not heard much about it:confused:

The Baldwin 14:1 is a great piston. JE 13:8:1 is great to. I have test both along with the HH 13.75 which is right there with the rest. I say the Baldwin 14:1

sparks no longer sales the 13.8:1 piston
and it was actually a 13.5:1 with a thinner head gasket.

What octane fuel are you running with 13:1?

50/50 mix with 93 & 110 octane.

JE and CP are a couple of great pistons. From there you choose whether you want to run race fuel or pump. Then whether you want 3 or 2 rings. Then who will put it in. Then who will be your first victim.

whats the benefit of running 2 rings?

from what i've read 2 rings mean rebuilding almost as frequent as a 2-stroke... correct me if i'm wrong, im trying to understand the benefits as well

I wouldnt say it is as frequent as two-strokes. But the 2-ringers do build revs quicker, and pull harder to the Rev limiter.

Good enough. A two ringer is a strickly race piston and getting that extra edge is what it's about, tearing it down a little more often is not a problem. Replace the rings every 100 hours for a rec racer, more so for a pro racer. If clearances are tight and the piston isn't just "dropped in", it will last just as long as any high performance 3 ringer.
