Looking for info on whether a kickstart assembly can be added to the 2006 TRX450ER.

With the quirky e-start issues, it would probably be nice if one had a kickstart as a backup.

If you have any solid information on the subject, please post it.

dirtwheels says you cant add a kick to the e-start and vise versa because they use different wiring harnesess

Get a better battery I believe somethings wrong with the stock ones?

The batteries they put in there are prone to having a bad cell, unfortunately I can't find an alternative to it.

Also, more bad news, the cases are different ad honda has no available option to add a kickstart to the ER, like Yamaha's GYT-R (believe me, we've complained over and over)

i have an er and starts fine at -20 celcius...look in the owners manual for cold air start (-15 and below) it says to pump the throttle 8 times then put the choke on and ahhhh that sound shes runnin fine!

I have looked up all the part #s and have cut the harness down to only what is needed for the ER. There is a loop that would be have to made for the kickstart to work. The cases are the same for the ER and the kickstart so as long as you had all the parts and did the mods to the harness I am sure it would will work. I plan on doing this in a week or two. I doubt I will have time before Glen Helen but I am going to try to find time.

I believe Mark Baldwin is doing the conversion. I guess this isn't SOLID information though. Why don't you call him.

well the honda shop down here said you can do the add of a kick all the hard aprts cost around 200 bucks minus the hot start. cause mine is about 2 months old and its in the shop for starter problems the clutch sytems it uses wore out way too easily.

I just added a bigger battery to mine, 210 CCA vs. the 130 or whatever the stocker is, it starts SO much faster now.

Is that all?

I was using a Deka in my 400 that was about 280 CCA and wasn't much bigger than the stock sized battery. You could start in gear with the clutch out.:D

Is it simply a charging issue on the ER's? Or is the battery pinpointed the problem?

lol...didn't want to add an extra 10 pounds, 2 is bad enough.

i had problems with mine so i went up to honda and the owner gave me a new one. I have not had a problem since. I did remove head and brake lights and neatral and over heat lights, brake sensors, and clutch cable sensor, And i leave my key on overnight sometimes and it makes no difference. Just turn it on, pump the throttle, choke it, and hit the start button about 3 times until she idles by herself.

I don't have any problems starting mine either. Pump the gas 3 times, pull the choke, and it fires every time. Occasionally, it stalls and I have to pump the gas 3 more times and restart.

Once the bike is warm, I never have a problem starting.

I saw two YFZs restarting at the track. They turned over a little slow too but still fired right up.

pump the throtle before you try to start it and dont hold the throtle when cranking. Use choke if you are in cold area. Or go with a larger cca battery. if you want to kick start a honda, I know someone who will trade an 05 for that er. If you push throtle while cranking it will choke the engine out :chinese:

i purchased an 06, got it home, battery was low, charged, tried to start and the starter actually stuck on, had to turn it off with the key, when i turned the key back on, everything was dead, blew a fuse. called the dealership, put in new fuse and it happened again. called the dealership, told them the deal was done on this bike and to get me a new one prepped, picked up the new bike and no problems so far....still not as quick on the morning start as i would like but it does start with the choke in place....no bike is perfect!!

I agree no throttle after pumping 2-3 times.
