I want to know what the difference between a 2005 and 2006 450R. besides the headlights.

Is the 2006 alot more powerful than the 05\'s? I was wondering bc I was thinking about a nice red 2005 450R kick model.

I read in the new DW on the 2006 the compression was changed, and some other small things.

Give me a good comparison of the two R\'s

well I like the 06 450r it is way more powerful cause they made numerous changes to the motor

I really like the 06 450r better because of the power I hate the suspension on both the 04 05 and 06 my brother got some Elka's on his so it rides way much better

From what i read they are a little different motor wise, if im wrong some one please correct me. The 05 and under have a lttle more stroke and less bore and are putting out 10.5:1 compression ratio. The 06 has less stroke and more bore and is putting out a 12:1 compression ratio.

04EXrider is correct, they also changed the rear linkage and the biggest difference is ELETRIC START!!(kick start optional)

when you said kickstart optional did you mean on the 06 model because on my brothers electric start model he does not have kick start as a backup on it wich I think is stupid they should have the 06's come with kick start from the factory as a back up or primary cause some people like kick start

Let me claify, if you have a eletric start, there is no kick start and vice versa. Now if you have the kick start, you can spend about 400 to install a eletric start kit but Honda dosnt make a factory version with both yet.

the seat height is a little lower on the 06, the swinger is a tad bit longer it now has improved airflow to the airbox and some other misc stuff. I think they also changed something with the front shocks, I think it was the material they are made out of.

yeah that is kinda what I said

my brother has one

you said and the biggest difference is E-start (optionall kick-start)

I thought you said it had an option on the e-start if you wanted to kick it

but I know there are 2 diff. models

they moved the ressies on the shocks to behind the shocks so they dont get hit with rocks
But i think that i read somewhere on here that they were having problems with the ressies that they were over heating.

the front spindles were tweaked to get more negative camber. Means the wheels tilt slightly inwards to improve cornering. Swingarm was lengthened 15mm. Suspension travel is at 9.3 inches in the rear compared to last years 9.0 inches. Lower gear ratios. Lowered the seat. The rev limiter is set at 9850rpm. They added a 40mm flat side Keihin carburetor. The air box and filter is 1.4 times bigger than the '05. All of the information was provided by: Dirtwheels January 2006 Issue.

2004exrider you are correct about the compression ratios.
