i am going to get a new set of rear wheels and tires. i will be running 20x11xZ where Z is the size of wheel i end up buying. i am mainly interested in drag racing so weight is a major concern. i do run on a track here and there too so i can't get drag specific items. on itp's website it shows that the 20x11x8 XCR's are lighter than the 20x11x9 or 20x11x10. i do not see how that is possible. i am wondering if it is a misprint. if it turns out the 10 inch wheels will be better i will use those. my overall goal is to be as light as possible and i need the tires to run "true" and smooth on a paved surface. any suggestions?

I heard 10" wheels are designed for Flat Track/TT.....

I use them in the sand....

Also you might want a bigger rim to have less tire basicly, or possibly the smaller rim for more tire. More tire might give you more bounce/give in the tire.

i use them in XC. There is less side wall roll with the bigger wheel.

i really don't know. i contacted itp and they said 9 inch rear wheels would be fine. they didn't explain much though. would 10 inch wheels be lighter overall with a tire from less sidewall? maybe more bounce and less flex too. may bend easier too though....i am just not really sure what is best for dragging and a recreational track rider.

I'm going with Baja rims, I figure they should hold up next best to beadlocks if not possibly better. (other then Hypers). For drags, you really want less weight (for speed) or more weight (for traction)? And you would want a stiffer tire(less sidewall) I assume for drags. For track you'd want a strong rim, with little weight, and you might want more side wall so the rims don't take such a beating from landings.

it seems that 20x11x10's would have to be the lightest tire because less sidewall=lessrubber/weight. Assumming the tires are all the same ply. 10" rims are mainly seen in TT and flatracking use for the same reasons with the tires of less weight and less sidewall to roll when cornering. When u called ITP did u talk to customer service or sales.... I bet they don't know squat. Except for selling tires that they have the most in stock !

i actually emailed itp so i have no idea who wrote back. are you thinking 10 inch rear wheels would be better? i am thinking kenda claw or itp XCR tires. i am on a track here and there so i do not want a TT tire necessarily.

From what I've seen bigger rim and less tire is less overall weight. Smaller rim and more tire means you wont be bending rims as much, so figure out how much your going to hit the track and then go from there. Also if your doing strictly dragging then even maybe a .160 rim or a .125 rim might not be a bad idea.

Also Rip_Tear the bajas are still not as good as beadlocks from what I've seen. Althought we have bent nearly every rim. Hiper is probably the only way to go for MX in my opinion. My riding buddy went through about 6 bajas in maybe a month of racing. They're good, but not that good.

For xc/trails you want a 9x9 on that tire.

You can go with a 10x10, if you use Baha style (reinforcing ring) rims.

A standard 10x10 on a 20" tire will get bent a lot. Heck 10x10's on 22's get bent a lot. ;)

i think you guys are hard on your bikes compared to myself. i have never bent a stock 400ex or 450r wheel on stock or aftermarket tires.
