the 06 hrc = 05 crf
alot say for huge bottom end the 02 crf is good
so from that i'd say its between those 2 years

i just put in the 05 crf and i really like it
lots more acceleration especially thru the upper rpms

I just put in my 02 CRF cam today. I went with it because everyone said it had alot of bottom end hit.

I will post as soon as i get it broke in. That could be a while with the cold weather. I installed a 02 CRF cam and a 11.5:1 wiseco piston today.

Looking forward to your ride report.

Well, the crf cam is a honda cam and so that's why you pay a little more for it. You can get one for about 180 from a dealership or possibly cheaper through servicehonda.com. I have the 02 and it barks. I had a dealership install it cause I had no time to and everyone was interested in knowing more about it. The service manager and techs wondered what it was, they were inpressed. It barks and likes to jump out of your hands when you pin it. Has increadilbe "seat of the pants power" down low through mid. The cam does fall off faster than the HC and HRC, for sure, but it has much better bottom and mid. The cam does improve in topend over the stocker.

After my bike is back together I am having it dynoed. I wish at that time I could do a test with someones used HCS2 and HRC. The only problem is is that I have a lot more done to it that just the cam. It might still show a good comparison.

I put the 02 crf in last year and it mad a big dif on the bottom. Put a 13-8-1 piston in and the thing was hard to hold on to. The thing pulls hard out of the corners

I have the 13.5-1, pipe, rev box and the 02 crf cam installed last year and it flat out ripped. It was hard to get use to the bottom end power that it created. I found my cam on ebay for $35. A dirtbiker installed a web cam when he bought the bike so it was new.

I'm glad to hear it has tons of bottom end. That just makes me want to get mine back together. $35 is a great find on ebay. I paid $166 from service honda for mine.

I will be running a Wiseco 11.5:1, 02 CRF cam, HRC airbox lid, UNI filter, HRC needle.

What jetting are you running right now?

I was running a 170 main with the needle one clip pulled up from the middle. I wasn't running a lid though and I didn't have a piston in yet.

I can't wait for my quad to be done. Got a VCP 12:25, 02 crf, KW springs, porting, UNI, PC pipe. (fcr and dyna maybe on order) ooooooooooooooooooo:devil:

This thread has me wanting to go to the Honda shop. I might need to get rid of the stage 2. It just doesn't grunt my 260 pounds the way I like.

My friend just put that hc2 in his. He is heavier than you are. He run's 13/39 gearing and he says its hard to hold on now ;)

Just and idea, cheaper one at that.

I run 13/39 dunes and flat track. 22" haulers in the dunes, and 18" Americans on the track. It is geared perfect, for both situations.

The HCS2 is a great cam for those using a piston with it. It is also good for those who spend a lot of time in the high rpms. I had a chance to ride a R with a HCS2 and wasn't all that impressed but I also run in the lower rpms of all gears. It's just however you ride. I loved getting back on my bike and feeling the torque. The HC had nice pull in all gears, just in the mid-upper range of those gear. Very fun, but I don't get off on speed--only arm socket ripping torque.

Iv'e heard alot about the 02 CRF. Sparks old agressive cam was the same at an 02 CRF at one point.

I heard that about the sparks right before I installed my crf cam. I run no airbox lid, full pipe, 13.5-1 piston, Moved the needle one clip, 190 main, and adjusted the screw but don't remeber how much like 2 turns. Also 110 octane fuel.

Has anyone ever ran a 03 cam because I bought one but my motor isnt back yet, what kind of results do you think I should expect? Im also geting it ported and geting a Wiseco piston, full pipe and a rev box and geting the head milled down, and some other stuff.

I believe the timing on the 03 is more advanced than the 02. You may have to use an adjustable timing gear with it or it will have a different powerband than the 02. I think I ask that question before from a honda dealership and they said that honda was making the newer cams to give the dirtbike more midrange. So if they are right, it will have good power, just not as much bottom.

thanks, I just bought it on a whim and told my motor builder to put it in.lol

Are you saying that the HCS2 works a lot with a HC piston compared to the 02 crf cam with a HC piston.

I am planning on running a 13.1 comp piston in my 450 this year, and want more torque. I am not concered about how much hp i can pull from the motor, but how much torque i can get from it.
Is the 02 crf cam is the best choice then?

Hey bro , thats exactly what I will have . I raced the CRF cam in 2005 but Im putting a JE 13:1 piston this year. cant wait to try this but I loved the CRF cam with my sparks pipe there was power everywhere with huge low-mid power.

Awsome, that is what i am looking for!
You going with an ignition?
I plan on getting tokyo modded vortex.

I want to change out my piston, go through all bearings and seals. Then I want to add cdi, maybe even change the carb.

If I do change the carb then my 416 will get a carb upgrade as well :) since I can pop the r's on it.

Now to change the cdi should I go with the entire crf wiring and flywheel, or would just a dynotek cdi be good enough ?

I want to go with 12.5:1 for my piston since i've read I can still run pump gas with the HRC cam.

I've got a q. will a stock CRF revbox fit a 05 450r? if so what years?

I actually have a 12.25 piston going in with some port work and my 02crf. The HCS2 will give you a broader powerband with ecellent torque and top end. I love torque and like to keep the rpms low and pulling. I have not made up my mind on a Dynatek or not coincidering I don't rev the motor that much. I don't see it helping enough to spend the money for an extra 1000rpm that I won't see. I will have a gragh of an 02crf with my piston and HCS2 once I can find someone with a used one or is willing to lend me one.

I don't think so, if it did there would be a lot more people running straight crf boxes. I think the wiring is different and the plugs, but I don't know and am only guessing.

No ignition at this time but Im thinking about a trailtech -4 flywheel to make it rev more in the sand.
