What is the best way to go to get the most HP. I would like to get around 35hp. Would a piston and cam do the job, but I don,t want a very high compression piston. I want something that is reliable. I do alot of trail riding in the mountains 150 - 200 miles in a weekend. Would I get away with just the piston and cam or would I have to replace other things. 416, 426, 440 how much difference between then besides the obvious size in the pistons.

with a 400ex your gonna have to go with some compression for those kind of hp numbers.why 35hp? hp is nothing if the engine doesnt have usable power and torque in the rpm range where you ride most.a 416 kit with one of those aftermarket cams for your type of riding and a good exhaust system and i think you will be happy regardless of the numbers you'll make on a dyno.;)

The 416 in the dyno section is making 35HP with some simple mods. Id check it out.

The 416 is a good motor. The one in the dyno section puts good power down. But it had porting. My mods are in my sig. and I'm not easy on it and have had No Problems out of it.

I would recommend this setup. 416, 11:5 piston( still can run pump gas), XC cam because its not a very aggressive cam and gives good mid to top power for trail riding. Full Exhaust. This will get you around 35hp.

The 440 has more Tq. I personally like the 440. I'm getting 38hp and 29tq for what has been a problem free motor for me. I run 50/50 mix of 93 pump gas and cam2
