i have the answer to the hot-start cable problems

a hot start cable for a 04 crf450 is exactly as long as the stock 04-05 trx450r cable. you can get them new at the dealer for 12.00 and just use a crf purch+lever.

everybody was saying they were way to long, but they matched right up.

thanks. i was always wondering why u had to buy the CRF cable. I tought they would work but never measured them.

It's the way it hooks up into the carb, is the difference. I've tried it before using a stock crf clutch assembly and everything bolted up except the cable end to the carb itself :(

i have that end hooked up and it seams to be just fine. i had to order the crf lever+purch assy. i will have it all done tuesday night. right now i can pull the end of the cable and i can hear it moving in the carb. I swapped the threaded part from the trx cable to the crf cable. the plunger hooked right up, and everything went in to the carb ok.
i guess i will know tuesday night.

I ordered my cable from Baldwin. It is a CRF type cable with the adjuster. I am using an RMZ 250 perch and lever and it works fine! The stock RMZ perch and lever assembly is only like $15 from the dealer.

a talked to Mark at baldwin about his cable. my buddy had a new cable and i used it. i guess i will find out tuesday.

It mounts into the carb fine, but the cable housing isn't long enough and there isn't enough adjustment to make up for it. In other words, there is too much cable sticking out at the end.

i used a threaded adjuster from a clutch purch and it spaced it out parfect. everything fits great and works just fine.
